I was talking to an employee of a large fleet who happened across an invoice for one of their ‘22 579s. He said the taxed truck price was $133K, the trade unit was $20K, which resulted in $113K OTD. He and I know where the trades are sitting for $90K-$100K, depending on mileage. Pretty disheartening.

Sorry, but that sounds like a typical truck stop lunch counter story

It’s not. He and I teamed for a few weeks, then, worked together for 2yrs, and have talked every week the last 5yrs. Dude has never lied or exaggerated to me. Recently, he fell into a position that gave him the opportunity to stumble onto the invoice. Now, we both know why they bought more than 200 additional 579s, this year.

dwells40, Feedman and Magoo1968 Thank this.

I think 133 after the 20k trade sounds more realistic. But idk

If it was before the increases I could see $133 for a fleet truck bought on a volume discount. My 579 is pretty loaded up and has the Platinum interior and other things a fleet wouldn’t get and I paid $168.

Siinman, Cat sdp, dwells40 and 4 others Thank this.

It’s just numbers on paper most likely for tax reasons dealer wants 193 trade is 80 so they work it out accordingly.

We both thought the pricing was ridiculous. But, when they started buying them, it didn’t fit into their way of doing things. For instance, when they bought Cascadias, they bought 5. When they tried 6X2 lift axles, they bought 5. When they bought 6X2 tags, they bought 5 (I had one). That’s typical for their experiments. With the Petes, they bought 25 (my buddy has one of these). Then, they brought in another 150, despite a lot of CEL’s and other problems. Then, the orders started exceeding 200. We both thought the progression was really fast, to go from 0 to 175, in 2yrs. Now, the fleet is like 1/3 Peterbilt, which is around 700 of them, in 5yrs.
