Hey all,
I'd really like to get a CB radio for use when I'm out traveling (I go out often to forest areas, deserts, highways, 'middle-of-no-wheres', and all mostly at night). I think it would be a good idea to have and use.
From what I'm reading it seems it's a male dominated thing, which makes sense since the majority of truckers are men. I'm just wondering if it's likely that I would be ignored or mocked for trying to communicate with others using the radio?
I'm 20 and I don't know much about the radios but of course would learn what ever need be in order to not sound like a fool. Please give me your thoughts. Thanks.

It's unfortunate, but most of the time a woman talks on the CB, all the guys seem to fall over each other to flirt with her. Be prepared to deal with that obnoxiousness.
Big Duker and simplyred1962 Thank this. -
Kind of the opposite of what I was expecting to hear. I guess that's better than being ignored or made fun of, right?
-
Don't worry they will do those things too, it all depends on the where, when, and who, on the other end.

Many, truckers are the worst, will get down right filthy with you on CB. Sad but true. A lot of these fat ######## think they are Sean Connery. With out the class of course.

Got me worried now! lol. So, say there was an emergency.. would I be more likely to get some help or would it be best to not let people on the cb know my coordinates late at night in the middle of no where?
If it's not gonna help me in bad situations it doesn't make sense to have! -
It's iffy Alison. Among the ranks of truckers are those who fit the old school mold of wanting to help. but there are also the sexual deviants who might take advantage.

Unfortunately, you'd be better served with a good cellphone. Bear in mind that truckers aren't the only ones out there with CBs. And if you broadcast your coordinates when you are experiencing an emergency, consider who might get to you first. The kindly trucker out on the highway who wants to help, or the freak in the woods who just heard his latest victim? CBs are a useful tool to keep in your vehicle, but would be the last resort I would use in an emergency. Just my .02.

Im pretty sure that wont happen. Ive talked to many drivers on my cb. Alot of times how I would start talking to drivers is when there passing me I most of the times would tell then they could come over in front of me and then I would say where ya headed and that usually starts a conversation until they get too far ahead. Ill talk to any driver unless the conversation starts heading in the wrong direction.

In 45 + years of being licensed I have worked many women on the air and found they fit in just fine .... I would not worry ......
