Probably a tough lane and they wanted to make sure you were good. Or they are in another time zone and are too dumb to know the differences. Oftentimes, when i dont reach out to the driver/dispatcher and there is a problem, im not made aware of it until i make the call. Many carriers will know they cant make pickup at 9am but wait until 1 our before a set 14:00 appt to tell me, leaving me hanging trying to recover with less than an hour to make pick.

So like others said, send an email advising the night before everything is g2g or dont answer and reply to the rate con email.

    Simple solution I had.

phone was on do not disturb, with the exception of the wife and that had some stipulations.

text me if it’s not an emergency call if it is. Everyone else was on DND until I woke up.

If you can afford it. Get another phone and line. Use it for work only. So you can put it on airplane mode without worrying about an emergency call. I pay for 3 lines have 2 phones and data for iPads and pay $224 a month. I’m a company driver also so you’ll pay half or even 0 as you can write it off as an expense. Then nobody blows up your personal phone. I don’t see how you can’t write off especially when phones are essential for all businesses.

Even if you can write it off, the expense to have it is still there. Expenses are not a $ to $ tax saving.

All the reasons for not answering the phone are interesting. But, at the end of the day we are truck drivers hired to do a job. If ya want the job where the expectation is that you are hired to move freight and you knew that was what you were letting yourself in for by wanting to be a " professional truck driver", then at sometime during the onboarding process with a company one would think that there would be a good time at some point to have clarification as to how scheduling an dispatching is going to work.

That's assuming the trucking company actually cares about the driver, which is rare it seems.

the "expectation" that we are truckers and are paid to move freight, ends when we are on our home time.

no mater how many times you mention to the company either at interview time, or after the final job offer is made, do you realistically "expect" the dispatching office to adhere to your requests?

if you think yes, then you are too new in this industry.

Ends for me when my head hits the pillow, doesn’t matter if I’m home or in SB. Ringer is off until I wake up and have a coffee in hand.

If my house is on fire don’t bother me, call the fire department, they work 24/7 I don’t

Off duty is off duty. There is hardly ever a really good reason to call a driver on his time off. If the office goes into panic mode because they can't reach a driver they should take another look at the way they run the dispatch.
