It wasn’t nasty but last driver was a smoker. No, I got a late start and just fluffed up my suitcase for a pillow and roughed it out for a night.
The easy fly down the night before and grab the truck the next morning didn’t go to plan. Helped the Driver swap trucks which in this heat was probably a good thing as I certainly wouldn’t want to swap trucks in that 100+ Texas heat. Getting a load out of town was interesting too but by 1900 I was finally under load, fueled, scaled and rolling.

Well, it’s been a day. Started early and ran to Corbin in Blair, both my TND and the Copilot app lead me to this charming place. After a befuddled call to night dispatch I did some thinking and figured the big chemical plant I saw on the way into town was a likely spot. Googled it and Google maps came through where the truck GPS failed (though I did go very, very slowly under that rail bridge). I stopped down before the gate to scope things out and the guard took pity on me and told me I was at the right place.
Got it dropped but no empties. Was under strict orders not to bobtail into Kansas City so another phone call to the long suffering guy at Night Dispatch found an empty in Fremont, added another few miles and a bit of time but I was glad to get a chance to top up DEF and diesel.
The KC drop and hook was easy peasy.
Hammered down the road and made it to Vandalia, IL. Wanted to make it to Effingham but that would have left me with only ten minutes of slack and I have tempted the parking fates enough this week.
Got parked and it occurred to me I hadn’t checked on Friday to see how much the orientation pay was after taxes. Well, I still don’t know because it hasn’t shown up yet. Really kicking myself for not checking Friday. If it hasn’t shown up Monday I have to call around down there to see what the deal is. The first $200 showed up so I assume all the direct deposit information is right.
Anyhow, getting up obscenely early again tomorrow to get this load off then go and grab the load from Wabash and then run home for a reset.Attached Files:

I have 95 and 13 silverados and I'm probably done buying pick ups for the rest of my life .
The 95 is my work truck and the 13 is low mile and like new spending most of its time in the garage only drivin on nice days .
No brand is perfect and my 2012 impala ltz was proof of that after 80k pampered miles it started drinking oil due GMs botched AFM system, GM of course told me sorry for your luck so when cars got hard to find during covid I dumped it back on a GM dealer at a very nice price .
The new silverado has AFM too but I disabled it right after I bought it.Speed_Drums, dwells40, runningman0661 and 2 others Thank this. -

4x4 400 4bbl auto and full time hubs , if it ever got over 10mpg I wasn't aware of it .dwells40, BigR, Old_n_gray and 1 other person Thank this. -
I had 73 short wide 2wd sb 350 turbo 400. With the tailgate down and not drive over 55mph which was the speed limit then. I could get twelve. But most of the time I had my toes tickling the butterfly in holley carburetor.
