Csa has been delayed, it,s not going through this summer. According to the trucker news paper, and yeah there upset, csa was supposed to be here back in 04. My opionion is that the large carriers are behind it some, the smaller companys are not dropping fast enough, so this is supposed to make them disappear.

Can you give me a link to the article you are referring to? All I could find was an article in which NTSB criticized FMCSA for not getting the program out sooner. It didn't say anything about it being delayed beyond this summer, though. Help me if you can! Thanks

Yep, you guessed it! It was called CSA 2010 in 2004. NTSB is complaining about the lack of speed with which FMCSA is implementing the new initiative. Would it have made sense to introduce it in, say, 2007. Hell no, this is the U.S. government. "We will sell no initiative before it's time"!

I just started driving, and have seen and heard, and even exprienced a few issues with the trucking regulators. I've just now realized that safety is a nice tag to put on anything in order to pass overbearing and ridiculous regs, or for the state to acquire money.

This crap is going to take alot of small companies out, and alot of drivers out. But it will help the mega companies, and will further "trucking mills" because nobody is going to be able to truck more than a few years before being cut.

I'm for safety, and 99% of truckers are for it too, but many of the things i've learned and seen since coming into the industry, named "safety" is nothing more than political control and stealing money from a huge industry.

Why can't the morons that run this crap, that arent drivers just accept that there is going to be truck wrecks, its going to happen, and there is no need to further cripple a dieing economy by passing laws that will make it very easy for drivers and carriers to loose everything over a few broken trailer lights, what happens when you go to your boss, who doesn't want to fix every little thing...because he needs a load taken now and can't wait 3 hours for the part.

As usual, how this industry seems to work, it always comes down to the driver getting his arse crunched because he has to pick between making a living and not breaking rules (sometimes things that have nothing to do with safety). Because both your boss, and the customer need what your trucking, they need it now.

Amazing! How hard is it to figure out when even a student can see it?
This Guy is practically an outsider and he can see thru all this CSA 2010 garbage is really all about.

There are plenty of foreigners chomping at the bit to drive in this country. They'll even pass the ever increasing physical requirements. Of course if they point out their foreign license, they can always buy another one, including the supplemental paperwork, for a couple hundred. My dad had a Mexican CDL, it only cost him $50.

    This is what I read:

Parts of CSA 2010 rollout delayed

    By Avery Vise

Full implementation of Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 will be delayed to 2011, the American Trucking Associations said April 1.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s original plan was to begin implementing the program in July 2010 and to have all states fully functional by December of this year. ATA says it now appears that although certain phases of CSA 2010 will begin this fall, full implementation will not be completed until spring or summer 2011.

FMCSA spokesperson Candice Tolliver says that as part of the agency’s commitment to launch an effective CSA 2010 program, FMCSA is in the process of incorporating feedback received from the CSA 2010 pilot states. Tolliver says FMCSA expects to issue a Federal Register notice within weeks that will address the CSA 2010 implementation timeline and data preview for commercial motor carriers.

ATA says that as announced on its free member webinar on CSA 2010 earlier this week, FMCSA plans to provide motor carriers with a limited preview of their CSA 2010 data beginning on April 12. ATA says it will provide members with instructions on how to access their data as soon as these details become available. While this preview will include carriers’ safety events (roadside inspections and crashes) and resulting violations, it will not reflect carriers’ scores in each of the Behavioral Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs) that will be part of CSA 2010.

FMCSA also announced that beginning Nov. 30, motor carriers and the general public will be able to view more complete CSA 2010 Carrier Safety Measurement System (CSMS) data, including scores in each of the BASICs, according to ATA. However, as previously indicated, the public will not be able to view the Crash Indicator scores because of concerns about the quality of the underlying crash data.

ATA also says that FMCSA on Nov. 30 will begin issuing warning letters to deficient carriers, but will not utilize the full range of CSA 2010 interventions. Instead, FMCSA will use the CSMS instead of Safestat to prioritize carriers for standard onsite compliance reviews.

The health restrictions are enough to eliminate thousands of jobs. The stress of trucking is bad on a good driver. High b/p, sleep apnea, diabetes and other things are on the CSA list. A large percentage of today's drivers have never done anything else. If they lose their jobs...does that make them disabled????
Some think this CSA will rid the highway of the worst but I think you are going to rid it of the best too. Until something is done about JIT freight from the Shipper down to the driver...you will not eliminate accidents. More and more trucking companies are requiring their drivers to driver over the limit and hide the evidence. This is what the government needs to stop. With jobs being scarce anyway...this is going to add to the unemployment rate like crazy. It will for sure break the system and will cause a great deal of stress on small business. Along with the New health Care bill we need to be doing a lot of praying. This nation has not seen anything yet. One thing we still have is our vote. USE IT!
