I hear ya there man! I despise that 75/69 corridor only take it if I’m making deliveries on that route which I do on occasions, pulling flatbed

I was just going to ask that question. I recently ran STL to DFW and had a fuel solution along the way. But this time I was returning from DFW up to Shell Rock, IA… the shortest route was back up 75/69 but then I ran the GPS up I35 instead. While it was like 50-60 miles further, it was only 10 minutes longer drive. I opted for I35 for the same reasons but getting through Dallas instead of bouncing off the East side was less like able.

so, O/O … as a Company Driver it doesn’t really impact me either way as I get the same pay over the same time frame but I’m wondering what y’all do… if something is 50 miles further, but just as long time frame, does it matter to you when mixing in fuel costs? Does longer miles matter if the truck is pulling just as long?

Any other aspects you consider? Like better roads, driver comfort?

(still chewing on going O/O so I’m trying to consider issues from that point of view too… thanks)

Wayne, you’re a numbers guy, I’m thinking you folks have more posts with a 1035 pages then we did with 1035 pages. Could be wrong. Maybe one of our Mods could figure it out.

dwells40, cdavis188 and BigR Thank this.

I left my adding machine in East Central Illinois back in 2011. But ya, sounds like a good job for the Mods. Even if it’s based on so many posts per page, it will give them something to do.

cdavis188, bzinger and BigR Thank this.

Every darn time I start thinking about O/O some guy has to post a reality check like this and then I quickly settle back into my Company Truck.

It depends on a few factors, #1 if I'm getting fuel on the route which way is cheaper, #2 how many hours I have and where I'll be shutting down at if I can't make it all the way #3 road & traffic conditions. In the example you gave I take 35 every time. Dallas/KC is about 50 miles farther on 35, but almost a wash time wise. With all the stopping and slowing down through all the towns on 69/75 you easily make up the fuel difference by keeping moving on the interstate, and it's less wear and tear (easier miles) on the truck (and me). But with where our Tulsa yard is on the east side of town and wanting to save time tomorrow it made sense to go the way I hate today. Worked out a little better for my fuel situation also, tonight is cutoff, so I'm waiting till tomorrow morning to fill up since last week sucked with the downtime in NM, don't want any extra coming out of this week's settlement when it's for a load that'll pay next week anyway.
