Some of the old "Pulp Fiction" or "Penny Dreadfuls" western cowboy stories used the expression. Usually applied to what the rustlers claimed.
Good books, clear outlines of JUSTICE in the day.

Old style... Jolly Roger's prefer the "steel hay hook" mark of distinction. No one to whittle a peg leg now.

I'll be dipped. As a youngster I was a avid hunter, Bow&rifle. It was a term my dad & his buddies used. Cows have similar tracks to Elk. So that's where I thought the term came from.

Hey, this catches on from your promoting, y'all can offer a freebie with quantity orders. Say like " Five name brand balls included".
Boost quality, dispose of the old balls. Marketing 101....

Always thought it came from guides getting pissed at flatlanders that couldn’t hit #### — “Well F, that’s the 5th elk you’ve missed in the last 2 days— it’s alright, I’ll put you on a slow elk in morning and we can be done”.

Go find a kid 13 to 16 and outline the problem. Prolly thumb it 3 time and hand it back saying, "here", as he leaves. Possible.
    More serious.
First make another copy of the backup. This in case it gets swallowed during attempts. Then go down to an AT&T, Apple, or Verizon store.
Stumble in so lost and humble and hit up the youngest appearing hand toting the most facial metal. Explain that you got this "######" iPhone an no one can transfer your saved items. Should you hit; be done immediately, with a lecture on the superiority of themselves or their product. Prayers for success.
