Pay attention to wording when you file for unemployment. Choosing the wrong wording or typing what the company printed on the paperwork the gave you for termination could be the difference in getting it or not and also sets the stage for a dispute hearing.Gearjammin' Penguin, RockinChair, slim shady and 1 other person Thank this. -
NO! I didn't refuse work.
I was employed 5 years, and I wanted to stay.
NO! Nothing was sorted out - maybe that's what feels wrong?
This was not done professionally and properly (in my opinion, but I have no rights according to the GA law it seems)?
But, to sign a blank of piece of paper?
I don't know too many rationale and sane people who would have done! Really?
Why wasn't Human Resources present?
This is absurd to me.
Again, IF this entire situation was handled differently (Supervisor, Human Resources present, etc...), I might could accept this easier, but to corner me up by some "Training lady" seems wrong.
However, as a female driver, I have my limits and boundaries with having someone watch me all day.
This is definitely a personal choice, and I respect those (I truly do) who can accept a driver facing camera. I cannot especially with no history of accidents or tickets.
Yes, I totally understand that means finding somewhere else to work, but I will not tolerate a driver facing camera. For those who can, I admire you.
I have said NOTHING with my unemployment claim (yet).
When I filed, I had not received my Separation Notice yet (Violation of Company Policy).
I had just stated that I received an email stating my employment had ended when I filed my unemployment claim.
So, that is the ONLY information that I have provided so far.
I'm curious to see what the company is going to provide.
The Separation Notice of course, but I wonder how they will justify it?
That's right!
I'm in GA - it doesn't matter!Last edited: Aug 22, 2023

I understand your position.
File for unemployment as I suggest and be prepared to explain any inconsistencies in how they implemented policy changes and how they administer them. Refusal to agree to pay a company levied fine does not give them the ok to skip to termination if you were not made aware of the new policy but they don't or didn't fire others for simply touching thier phone.
Be prepared to file a dispute.
Do they have documentation that you signed stating you were aware of the policy, policy changes?
Do they administer the policy fairly and equally to all
Is it legal to demand you pay them a fine if you hadn't been made aware and signed off on the new policy
Were you unwilling to work while they sorted the issues/questions/concerns or inconsistencies out?Last edited: Aug 22, 2023
Bonita Nut Thanks this. -
Signing that mostly blank piece of paper would admit guilt to using a cell phone which she states she did not do and also give said horse poo employer the ability to charge her $150.00 which is almost a days pay for herLonesome and Bonita Nut Thank this. -
Please explain what you mean by any inconsistencies in how they implemented policy changes and how they administer them?
I realize policies can be changed at any time, but shouldn't a company have methods to communicate the policy changes to ALL employees/drivers?
I had to pay the $150 fee AND agree to a driver facing camera or get fired. I had 2 things that I had to do.
Now, that's the question- how do you PROVE others were touching their phone (BINGO)!
Let's be honest. We know drivers are touching their phones with at least 1 finger (PERIOD).
However, I never said that to "Training lady." She knows it.
I am not able to say, "let's see everyone else's dash cam", BUT THEY SEE IT.
That's why I know there is discrimination going on.
I am no different, but I guarantee you, I do not text and drive or hold that phone.
I do not hold or have my phone in my hand any while driving.
That's one reason I have no accidents or tickets. I am not skilled of a driver. LOL
Am I perfect? NO!
But, I am safe.
Still contacting lawyers today... -
They were probably going to add goodness-knows-what to that paper when I left.
I simply could not sign.
I had to lose my job.
I know $150 - that was my exact training pay for that day on Sat. August 5, 2023 (STRANGE)!
I truly wonder if they came up with this BS the day of training?
The "alleged incident" occurred July 25, 2023 - almost 10 days before.
This whole situation SINKS!RockinChair Thanks this. -
Have they administered the said fines on others consistently.
Have they fired others for touching thier phones, have they fined others for for touching thier phones. Starting to get the Idea yetBonita Nut Thanks this. -
I've never heard about it until that day when I saw that blank piece of paper.
I am not sure about administrating the said fines on others consistently - to my knowledge NO!
No, the other male driver with driver facing camera for over a year consented to the camera - I am almost certain he has touched his phone on camera, but they won't tell me that.
But, they ARE NOT SHOWING OR REPORTING OTHERS.
But, they ARE NOT SHOWING OTHERS MISCONDUCT! -
You ran into jealousy, pure and simple. It would have only gotten worse. Weird, but many companies will…attack the best, most conscientious drivers due to the above. They don’t like their job, so no way you are going to either.
Don’t waist much time chasing unemployment. Use that time and energy getting another job. The longer you are away from driving, the more difficult it will be to get another position.
Life is not fair. Everyone runs into discrimination at some point.
Do not say anything negative to your next opportunity if at all possible. Stay focused on how good that job was for 5 years. Something better will come along. Stay positive.TheLoadOut and Bonita Nut Thank this.
