What large carriers will take an entry level class-A driver with a criminal background? I am having trouble finding a reputable big company who will give me a chance.

    austinmike Thanks this.

Your criminal history will affect your chances, what are the charges in your file?

    What is your criminal background?
We'll find something for you since you already have a cdl.
What are the crimes; if there are no sex crimes, you'll be ok.
Sex crimes will make trucking difficult, but not impossible.

    Where is your location?
    Do you have endorsements?

    austinmike and SoulScream84 Thank this.

To have any real prayer of answering your question even semi-accurately, we need more info:

    • What your offenses were -- with approx dates
    • Where you are located (city/state, and/or zip code)
    • Do you also have any traffic violations? If so -- what are they, and when?
    • What type(s) of freight interest you?
    • How old are you?

A lot will depend on the criminal record and time since convictions.

Doubt anyone here will be able to help you without any of the basic details.

Yeah, and I didn't even get in on it. Not to worry, there will be more. I'm not so sure the nature of the offense is a concern anymore. Most are drug related. I realize my "wood shed attitude" doesn't fly today, these people can and do make good employees, and it's not so much they deserve a 2nd chance, it's the lack of "clean" applicants that puts them in a good position.

I don't know if the OP will see this, but here is my

Right now the US economy is a bit down. Carriers can be a bit selective. Don't give up. The passage of time always works for you.

Go to this WEBSITE and take a good look. If you were convicted of any of the offenses marked as PERMANENT DISQUALIFYING CRIMINAL OFFENSES then you are never going to be able to get a TWIC card or haul hazmat. This takes some carriers off your list.

Then take a look at part B. The crimes listed there in most situations will not prevent you from getting hired, but take a look at the rape section. This crime these days gets you put on the sexual offender registry. Then you can see the dishonesty sections.

There are thousands of drivers currently driving that are convicted felons. There is always going to be a spot for you. The trick is to find it. Keep pounding the pavement.
