Oh I found loads. There are 6 active loads on the board right now in all of Arizona. I'm going to average 1.25 a mile this week on this garbage freight before fuel and insurance. To compare to last week when I did nothing but TSC in to Cali and back out of LA, I made 4000. That was an extraordinary week, but I could typically make about 2500 a week on 3 round trips. This week, I'll make 1800 on 2600 miles and I'll be home Sunday. I was home every other day with TSC loads. This garbage freight will end the owner operators out of Phoenix. If I had a lease, I'd be panicking. As it is, I'm panicking because this won't even cover my bills. To add insult to injury, there are no loads going east in case you want to jump out of this crappy market and run the midwest. You're stuck in the SW with nothing but crap. IF this doesn't change in the near future, I'd say run far away if you live in the Phoenix area.

You would be a captive audience of only Schneider freight and at a percentage you could only hope to trust… By all means, knock your self out.

How do you survive off $1.25 a mile with fuel around $5 out west?

Exactly my point. Not only that, but they lowered our fuel discount for the western states. It's insane. It almost feels like they want owner operators to quit the company if you live in the west. 5 years I've been here and I've never seen anything like it. It definitely rattled me. I can't imagine having a lease through Schneider finance and living out here. My lease payments were 4900 a month on 5 week months.

All these look like actions to starve out the owner operators and give more of what's left of freight to their company trucks.

This is why you can never lease onto a carrier with company trucks, the company trucks are given priority over you.
It just becomes more evident in hard times.

I am currently in the phx area today. I was offered 3.30 a mile dry van load. 1350.00 for 409 miles. I turned it down for a better paying reefer load. If you’re leased to Landstar or Schneider say good buy to free market and hello to a captured audience.

Yeah I'd have to deadhead all the way because there is no freight going east and I almost never see freight going east. I'm thinking a lot of people are going to quit and go elsewhere.

I'd imagine the learning curve for having your own authority is something not everybody can handle. I've thought about it. I've never dealt directly with brokers so I have no idea about the business side of trucking. At Schneider, they interface with that side of the biz and I just see the loads on my computer screen and choose the loads from there.
