I blame this driver for listening to another “we load them like this all the time” shipper.

From the photos it looks like they would fit if turned the other way. Also, no dunnage???

I'm not arguing or anything, but I am curious. Could he still put flags and banners on anyway even if not required, or would that just cause trouble?

My experience with oversize is pretty much limited to hauling 60 ft. Rebar from Illinois into Iowa. We would always stop at the state line and put up our oversize banners and flags Because they were required in Iowa but not Illinois.

I was told we could get fined if we ran in Illinois with the banners on because it wasn't required there. I was new then so I just did what I was told.

About the only time you can/might get a ticket is if you are empty. If you are under an actual permit load they won’t say anything. 9 out of 10 times even empty the will just make you take them down. And there are a lot of places they won’t say anything at all.

But, if you have them out on a load that doesn't require them, are you just asking to be pulled around at a scale or drawing unwanted attention?

I’m probably not the best one to ask. I hardly ever take mine down. Some days I load 3 and 4 loads. I’m not taking banners down just to run 20 miles and put them back on. But I will also run 300 miles with them out on an empty truck.

Am I being lazy? Perhaps. But I have only had two cops say something. Once in Wyoming and once In Wisconsin or maybe Minnesota. Somewhere up there.

If the scale officer fought with his wife this morning, got decaf by mistake on the way to work or many other reasons he can decide to drag you around back for a paper check or more. Any reason will do, try not to give him one.

Maybe I want him to pull me in. Then I will have a chance to share Jesus with him.
