Lol I actually quit my fancy local gym during Covid. This is my free home gym nowadays.
I do however play soccer 1-2 times per week and it's $15 per game, so I guess it kinda evens out.
When it comes to summer camp, yes, sending kids to family especially in the country side would be great, unfortunately for a lot of first gen immigrants like myself, that's not an option, since we don't have much family (if any) over here

I also believe that having kids and not spending money on them, like paying for after-hours activities, music lessons, tutoring, showing them different things around the country to get them more educated, you will end up raising another generation of truckers or factory workers.
There is a reason people in the city can't afford lots of kids, because they wanna put them in college and have a better life. Yet usual country folks have lots of kids and never worry about all that stuff.Rideandrepair, dwells40 and 77fib77 Thank this. -
Reading this makes me thankful that I don’t live in a metro area and that my home is paid for.JoeyJunk, Siinman, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this.

Maybe it's because you are a first generation immigrant you don't see the countless successful families out in the country here who learn to do more with less.exhausted379, JoeyJunk, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this.

Amen to that!JoeyJunk, Siinman and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

I sure don't, because I am not in the wealthy circle myself, but I sure see a lot of overweight truck drivers with missing or rotten teeth, who's families been in US for more than 100 yearsChieftains, Rideandrepair, Constant Learner and 4 others Thank this.

All those expenses are luxury. Haven’t had health insurance. Pay cash, get discounts, and make payments if needed. If health insurance wasn’t a racket they wouldn’t be sponsoring about every professional sports team. Wife stayes home raises kids and makes dinner. No daycare or therapy for abused kids needed. Work for a living and don’t need a gym membership. I take the kids fishing and camping. They don’t need to go to some fancy summer camp don’t live near city because it’s cheaper to live in the country. I also don’t want my kids to become indoctrinated in college would rather have them learn a trade. My son currently works quality control in a food production plant that I’ll be picking up refrigerated freight tomorrow, how cool is that. Obviously these are life choices but most people in the world do not have health insurance, gym memberships, and all these fancy things. A fishing pole, hunting rifle, good wife, job, and the family Bible is pretty much all needed to raise a family.lynchy, mc8541ss, kemosabi49 and 9 others Thank this.

That college education must not be that great when the government is trying to pay off peoples college debt..... I know some that it was a waste of money on for sure.JoeyJunk, Siinman and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

@DUNE-T I understand what you mean by 1st generation. I have very little family here. But, it gave me my drive not to take anything for granted. Did two and half enlistments to show gratitude to nation off that bat. That’s what should be done. Come here, you should offer your life for the privilege.
