Hey everyone. Getting close to finishing my first year of trucking.. no mishaps or close calls until today. I was in line at blue beacon for a truck wash. The bay next to me became empty and the employees told me to back up and go into the empty bay. Didn’t see anything in my mirrors so I started to back up until I realized the swing from the front of my trailer clipped their vacuum and messed it up pretty good. It’s private property so no police were called. No damage to my truck. We exchanged insurance and I told my company and they didn’t seem to care too much. I am extremely worried about this effecting my future hire ability as I was looking to go local tanker here soon. My fm says he doubts the company will report something that minor on my dac report but I’m still worried . I’ve worked very hard to make a career for myself and I don’t want it to be tarnished. Sorry for the long winded post. Thanks everyone

If you've worked hard to make a career why were you too lazy to get out and lok before backing up?
That said it 100% depends on the company if they report the property damage, and therefore money to fix, all because you didn't want to walk 100 feet.

Alot of times it depends on the amount of damage caused dollar wise. Companies can only hire you if their insurance agrees to cover you, so you may get rejected by a few, but should still be able to find gainful and good employment.

Just don't be taking out anymore vacuums and you should be good.

@tylerc228 The title of your thread says you are asking for help. You are getting exactly what you asked for. Zvar's advice is good advice. Not everyone on this forum will treat you with kid gloves.

Something like this, it’s not gonna cost you your job, stop worrying about it! But it is important to remember you’re driving a large vehicle, and a very heavy vehicle! This type of accident is not going to have anything to do with your driving record, There is even a good chance the carrier will handle it as an internal incident. Please pay attention in the future.

As the other Moose said, your job is not in danger.

Maybe stick it out there for a few months and check your dac and other reports to see if anything is there?

what does "non dot preventable" mean?

    The DOT shouldn't be involved.

If your record is clean so far and you don't have any company write-ups you'll probably just get chewed on a little. If they do fire you it might be a blessing in disguise.

I assume he was going for a kind of shorthand way of describing the accident. It was a non-DOT reportable, and it was preventable.
