I'm going to shake this discussion up a little bit, I just got another shipment of diesel heaters made in china, I paid $65 each for them so you can figure out it wasn't just a few I bought. They are going $130 to 175 retail for a complete kit, sometimes there are screw ups like the last batch had five that had the wrong size fuel tube so I had some left in stock and used that.

These are going into the new trucks and here is why.

The amount of problems I have had with Espar and with Wesbesto has been a few, most of the time it was sensor issues but I've had fan motors replaced and a bunch of ECUs. Some of the ECUs were fried by spikes in the electrical system which Espar said it is protected but they also admitted that this is what killed these.

For the price of say the ECU for an Espar, I can get five heaters. So I will use a few for parts if I need because of the price of the kits are cheaper than one service call for an Espar.

Right now, I have a local guy here who is pretty good at installing them, he ties it to the main tanks and does a great job and he can pull one out that has issues and install it within 40 minutes or so. He doesn't do trucks as the norm, he installed these things in cabins and even houses.

This afternoon I am sitting in my RV, which is at the new place, the office doesn't have heat yet, so it is skirted and sealed but in a few minutes I will be installing one out of the batch that arrived today to test out to keep the waste and water tanks from freezing. It is cold today (29 as the high today and 19 last night). I hate running the furnaces because they suck the fuel down.

I'm an RV guy as well as a truck guy. I've had the Chinese diesel heaters, some by Planar and my current Espar in my truck. I think they are all good. It's definitely worth it to go with the cheap Chinese ones because they are so cheap you can just throw out the old one if it dies and have a new one for a hundred bucks and move on. Kind of the same logic for a lot of us with cheap fridges and microwaves in our trucks.

I might try a Chinese one in my truck if this Espar ever dies but it seems to just keep going.

The biggest advantage APU has is that it keeps your engine warm during the cold as it heats you up inside the bunker. And I am not giving up on that.

Well I cleaned my bunk heater this weekend for the first time since buying it. Bought these little wire brushes from the tool store at Truck World in Hubbard, Ohio that fit perfectly.

Changed out both of the gaskets, new screen, and the little fuel filter. The old green gasket crumbled like a cookie soon as grabbed it...

Bought a new ignitor as well but just cleaned the old one up and it still works so I'll save it for the future.

The display screen is still showing maintenance required even though I ran the test and it shows no faults and i selected clear the message, I'm wondering why the maintenance required won't go away? Anyone know?

Yes, if you don't own the software to tell the hardware you've done the maintenance you're up a creek. There is a way to clear it without the plug in, but I don't know what it is.
