Hello Drivers: Can Anyone Tell Me How To Know If A Load From A Loadboard Is The Type Of Load That Would Require A Lumper Service? I Just Assume Stay Away From Them To Save Alittle, I'm Just Starting Out With My Own Authority.

    Thanks.:biggrin_25517:

unless the broker or shipper posts that lumpers are needed, there isnt a way I know of to tell on the load boards. Just make sure you ask when you call about the load.
I know some broker wont tell you unless you ask" Are there any Lumpers?"

Most lumper loads go to grocery warehouses. If you can avoid those you should be ok. If in doubt you could always ask the broker.

    beat me to it!

OR buy a walking floor and also never pay a lumper! "$200 to unload the product you ordered? Na, I'll get it!:biggrin_255:"

You can always call the broker and ask. If it is a lumper load, I make sure that expense will be reimbursed as well.

Grocery store loads often pay more. But they have lumpers which I dont see why you want to avoid them. Every broker i deal with pays the lumper fee, and so far the lumper has a blank comcheck and I call the broker and get the numbers and just fill it out in the brokers name. Doesnt cost me extra. The problem I have is grocery stores will refuse things they cant sell. For instance I Hauled dog food to a Grocery store DC, I didnt load the truck but the shipper used a bad skid that broke and tore open a couple bags of dog food and when they were loading a different skid they stuck their fork in through some bags, They just kept loading and didnt tell me it was in front of the trailer. anyway the grocery DC refused a bunch of bags of dog food, and then i had to take them with me. I had a load lined up for 3 hours later and now I had dog food still in the trailer. It wasnt alot so the broker wrote it off as loss. Still took a while on the phone to figure it out. Is there some thing I can do where if some thing is refused it just becomes my property at no cost to me?:biggrin_25511:

what's the big deal. I've never had a broker not pay for the lumper. You just can't have your head up your butt when you book the load and not have it in the confirmation
