Well Jim, I have a little egg on my face currently. I did not read your earlier post, although I went back to find out what you were talking about just now. And, yep, I can see now why he got canned. I don't blame Maverick in the least bit. Sit down, shut up and learn...

Sometimes ya gotta open up and take a big ole bite of the crap sammich, and its my turn currently. If I had read your earlier post I wouldn't have had jack nada to say...:biggrin_2552:

Not a problem my friend! I have been guilty of the same thing at times.
Sometimes there are so many posts and it is hard to read them all.
I hope he learned his lesson and is successful at his next stop!

I am new to this industry and have been in sales and management for over 30 years. I was very impressed with how the whole process went with Maverick. They were always professional. Told me up front what they expected. Told what they would accept and what they would not accept.
The equipment is well taken care of. Has Vorad radar on the truck to prevent collission. Has lane departure on the sides that alerts you when you cross the line.
They really do seem to care about their employees. I have spoken to as many of the other Maverick drivers that I have meet on the road and they are not the complaining type as far as I can tell. I am sure there are things that get under their skin, but that is only natural.

I personally feel very blessed to have had this opportunity and I look forward to a long career with Maverick. At least as long as I can lift the tarps and get the job done safely!

Best wishes to you and may God Bless!

Notarps, Ridgerunner, JimTheHut "and others alike"; I dont know you personally but from what I have read from you all, the advice given and the way you conduct yourselves on this forum "no B.S. & straightshooters" speaks volumes of you all; when the day comes for me to make this transition (Lords Will) I hope to surround myself with drivers of your like.

Aside from the things already discussed; I have a clean DMV record, no criminal record, obtained CDL permit "about a year ago; just wanted to see if could pass the test on my own accord", have a good work record/ethic, good shape and have always conducted myself in a professional manner "my jobs have required it; Military, Law Enforcement and Security Police/present" (if I have come across brazen or braggish with aforementioned, that is truly not the intent; just wanted to give a brief so as to get the best possible advice from all).

Back to original intent; what are some other things that I can do to better prepare/familiarize myself with RE: the aspects of the truck, job/flatbedding, etc...I realize "at least I think I do" that I will not truly be prepared/learn the job until I actually do it, and always continue to learn.

I realize that this is a future transition (at the very least 6 months - 1 year; maybe even longer; and I am not guaranteed the next minute) but as stated before I want to as prepared as I can be so as to start this new venture on the right foot and with a reputable company.

I apologize for the long post and thank you in advance for your all's patience and advice; for there will be more to follow.

God Bless to all; Those who faithfully bear the cross in this life will wear the crown in the life to com.

You've pretty much got the idea of the job...the only thing left is for you to decide if the lifestyle will fit you.

Some say its not that way anymore, but I say trucking is still more than a job...it is a lifestyle, or at the very least, a job that has to be "lived".

Away from home, by yourself, and dealing with the stress of the job while keeping your sanity...and it IS a stressful job at times, even with a good company.

Those are just a few things to be prepared for...the list is much longer than that though, and varies from person to person.

    JimTheHut Thanks this.

And...If you want to sit down and talk with me in person about this...I'd be happy to, we live close enough together that it could be done quite easily.

Does not matter what the economy is with their qualifications. I heard the head safety guy there (dean) say if we have empty trucks and can't get qualified drivers the answer is not lower the standards. The answer is to get rid of empty trucks.

Ridgerunner; I really appreciate that and would be real help to me for my future endeavors. Maybe at a time when our schedules can match we can make it happen; lunch on me and the wife.

    Thanks again and God Bless.
