I was looking through Indeed and some carrier sites and like 3/4 of all jobs let you apply but have "waiting list" on the jobs... What?
Why do many carriers have "waiting lists" for driving positions?

Because the economy is in the toilet. It's the free market. There's more trucks and drivers out here available to be loaded than there is available freight to haul on those trucks. Supply and demand so carriers can be picky in who they hire. The only drivers getting hired anywhere these days have squeaky clean records.

I guess people who are still talking about "driver shortage" never bothered to look at the actual market for the trucking industry...77fib77, Mattflat362, austinmike and 5 others Thank this. -
What kind(s) of freight/jobs are you applying for?
What geographic area(s) are you looking?

Pretty much the only thing I'm seeing is OTR without waiting lists... Even regional is pretty bad

You would think they would be going to good LTLs playing the long game towards retirement, and not back-road daily jobs and grocery fleets...celticdriver23, 77fib77 and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Day cab van or reefer....
I think that more drivers are likely pursuing that sort of freight...than others. Thus -- you probably have more competition, since that's easier freight to deal with.
My "take" is that you may well get better results.....sooner.....if you went after more specialized forms of freight (e.g., hazmat tanker).
Put those nifty endorsements to work.....

@HogazWild - True, but LTL's don't have the market cornered on good jobs with a solid retirement. You asked a question and don't like the answer or something? That's what it is out here. Yellow just put 15,000 drivers out of work a couple of months ago. They want a job too. My application I put in lay dormant for over 2 months before I was even contacted about that job. That's the market right now.
