Yes, more regulations are always the solution.

Well then you present a better solution , its so easy just to say stuff in general terms and to be overly sarcastic. (Keep in mind speed limiting devices are here to stay same as was the case with ELDs)

Let the market dictate pay. Employee drivers will go where they feel they are compensated fairly. The government doesn’t need to mandate how to pay people.

The ATA and their member companies have this belief that if every is even across the board then the turnover won’t be as bad. So instead of treating their employees like actual humans they try and force crap on everyone else. Just like the nonsense of wanting nanny trucks to go 5 mph faster than everyone else. Is the turnover at Swift going to lower because people will flock there to go 70 instead of 65?

Just because limiters are coming it doesn’t mean we need even more rules. Let everything shake out and settle down and things will be fine. People will pay what they have to pay to keep employees in their trucks.

Speed limiters are here to stay? Just like elds eh?

Well, there was a time when neither of those were actually on the table.

Whats next? Well, you want mandatory pay by the hour.

    How bout mandatory dashcams
    Then pointed at driver cams
Then we can force both those cameras to be on wifi with an auto-upload to a central video processing center that will auto-assign tickets for any infraction it sees while driving.
And as a bonus, it can send tickets to anyone else it sees on the road too

Mandatory on the truck and trailer scales that autoreport weight violations

These are the kinds of ideas that are stupid now, but theyre both possible, AND the fmcsa will happily jump on making them part of your life because it must justify its existence by constantly making money, or new rules, no matter how unneccessary.

Its the problem every administration of any institution faces.

They are not your friends, they dont care about anything other than justifying their jobs in order to keep those jobs and the status of lording their position over others

Your lack of imagination at how regulations are or will be used against you is YOUR failure of creativity, regulators who will never have to live under the regulations they make have NO such impediment.

The solution to this problem is simple. There's not a problem so no regulation is needed. It's like was already pointed out this is the mega carrier lobby wanting to "level the playing field" and take away a competitive advantage of other carriers.

So companies could then tell you when to leave, when to stop, control every second of your runs?

Long FLD and JoeyJunk Thank this.

I’m not turning mine down. I normally stay around 70 anyway but it’s nice to be able to get around the elusive pack of 68mph drag racers.

They only “selectively” enforce existing regulations anyway. Like the whole “must be able to communicate/read English” thingy! This is why the market won’t adjust pay accordingly. Carrier’s just replace vacancies with seat meat from anywhere across the globe with people who have multiple identities (so they don’t have to send them back for a little booboo).

Phoenix Heavy Haul and Oxbow Thank this.
