Hey guys, I've been having problems off and on for a few years, can't quite figure it out. My gas pedal will quite working, truck just idles. Turn it off, start it again, and it might work for 5 minutes or 5 hours, but it quits again. I've replaced a bunch of stuff, including the gas pedal sensor and other things, keeps happening, sometimes it will be good for a few weeks, then it will quite on me 6 times in a day. The local dealership isn't much help, they just prefer to gouge your wallet as deep as they can , with poor results. Thanks for all help!!

Replace the whole pedal assembly, if I remember correctly around that time the tps wasn't the problem, the assembly was. That solved the problem on quite a few.

The "gas" pedal, actually called the throttle on diesels, has a sensor that controls throttle application( more gas). Cost for whole pedal assembly about $250, and looks pretty easy to do. Can't make a living at idle,,

If you already replaced the sensor, the other thing is run new wiring between the sensor and the engine. Or, trace the wires yourself and see if you can find a bad spot. Start the engine, put a small screwdriver to wedge the throttle down enough to raise the RPM. Then you wiggle wires until the engine drops to idle, this is the location of the bad spot in the wires.

What faults do you have, knowing that could narrow down the search for the problem. Depending what engine you have the throttle sensor may share signal supply and return with another sensor. The throttle sensor also has an idle validation switch that could cause the problem.

Thank you very much for your reply, I will definately try to the wiggle test. I wish that I could find some sort of wiring schematic to help me know where the wires go to from the throttle pedal. The International dealership will not help me with this, I have asked them numerous times, and all they have is excuse after excuse.

When the pedal quits working the check engine light comes on. I do not have a scanner, but I can access the codes by cycling the key, and hold 2 buttons on the steering wheel at the same time, every time that I have done that, there are no faults. I even drove to the dealership after it happened and asked them to scan it, and they told me the same thing, no codes or faults. So I really don't know what to say.

Windshield leaking down on to the fuse box ?
This common problem with iH brings out the gremlins.

I am very surprised that the engine light came on and there were no logged faults. What engine do you have?
