    Hi,

    Does anyone know of any companies that would give me a chance after being out of driving for about 3 years now? I don’t have the money for a $5000 refresher course that lasts 2 weeks and I need to get on the road again. I have 1 year of flatbed experience with clean everything; I would like to haul a flatbed trailer again and not dry van or alike.

    So far I’ve applied for Maverick, Melton, TMC, Boyd Bros and even Knight whom I just got off the phone with and the recruiter said they didn’t have any openings for flatbed right now; the rest said a mixture of “Outside the hiring area, need a refresher course, need 4 months of recent experience” and after being shot down I’m beginning to run out of companies I know of.

    During this recession, you're best bet for employment is reefers. Yeah, I know, but that's the way it is right now.

    I live in Louisiana, nearest city is Alexandria.

    Why is it they have hiring areas for OTR driving?

    Yeah the lady from Knight mentioned they have positions for reefers and dry van.

    Thanks, definitely what I was looking for, but they don’t have any openings. Chinatown must be right about the recession; I’ve apparently been under a rock

    Just keep calling them..maybe ask if they can put you on a list for when a position opens up.

    They hired me fresh out of school about 7 years ago. Their equipment was nice and their terminal in Tulsa was quite impressive.

    fmcsa is showing that they have 298 power units..good size company

    open up the FMCSA database and search for companies by name or state. There are thousands of trucking companies, not just the 20 biggest.

    They have hiring areas because every trucking company doesn't go to every state or have freight in every state. You may be desperate enough RIGHT NOW you don't care if you get home for 2 months, but later when you aren't barely hanging on, you may want to get home more often and they may not be able to get you home, so you quit. The trucking companies know more about some things than individual drivers.
