Hi all
start my class room for trucking on august 14 to the 18 but after that I start the practical training
looking for tips from experienced drivers that may help me while I’m learning at the school

Not having driven a manual won't hurt you one bit. A big truck with a stick shifts differently than a car with a stick. They'll teach you all of that and it's good you will learn it since everything seems to be going to automatic these days.
You'll be just fine. Just remember one thing, never stop learning. Even if you end up driving for 50 years you learn something every day.Another Canadian driver, Sons Hero, Flat Earth Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
I’ll add read the manual then keep reading it. Don’t know how strict they are there but here better know the pretrip. Especially the incab. Watch what others are doing even when they screw up. Watch how it gets fixed. And keep the phone down. Not a time to be online.

Get into a routine doing the pre trip and air brakes exactly how they want it done during the test. Practice the manual shifting. It gets easier with time.

More importantly which school did u sign on with . i hope it’s not some random mickey mouse school if you plan to get hired by a decent company. Been there done that . Cost me a extra $3500 for a refresher course that schneider screwed me on the reimbursement

I did mine long before MELT and honestly was not that hard back then.
Biggest thing is just relax. When you get excited you'll miss shifts. Just roll on easy, take your time and watch those mirrors. Every turn, check the mirrors a couple times. Should be zero excuse to drag a trailer into anything if you're paying attention.Another Canadian driver and Phantom Trucker Thank this. -
Can I give this a bump and ask how you got on?
strongly looking at doing the same and just wondering if you’d share your experience and what’s involved?
