I am sorry to say this - you are the reason why we have such a problem in this industry with crap drivers and pos fleet owners.
Yes I will get pissed about it, I have to compete with these pos fleet owners for both resources and revenue sources, they take advantage of drivers who become a problem for all of us when drivers start not caring about what they do, they become more of a commodity as a driver for these pos fleet owners than they are with megas and the revolving door.
1099 drivers who work for pos fleet companies are slaves, they are normally abused and there is no flexibility.
Those who work under a proper agreement, are treated right, those fleets pay the drivers FIRST, then the bills but they always pay the driver FIRST.
If my employer doesn't pay me after I quit?

1099 drivers are not slaves. 1099 drivers aren't given driver facing cameras. 1099 drivers aren't told 'we care about you and your well-being so much we are magnanimosity giving you a week off after only one year'. 1099 drivers aren't sent to regions they really don't want to go to. 1099 drivers aren't governed by company policy in every facet of their employment, like it or not.
JB7 has been particularly helpful. Did I say some have axes to grind,? -
You’re not relevant, but look what happened in California. A bunch of 1099 people who were misclassified employees cried to the government and now you can’t even be an owner operator leased to a carrier in that state, and more states want to do the same thing and the dem’s want to push it on a national level. It’s a case of those who cut corners ruin it for people who are legit contractors. And people like the guy who owes you money don’t have to pay the normal expenses one would have with a W2 employee so they can operate cheaper than those who do things legit. They save on taxes and they save by not having to carry work comp insurance. You might be irrelevant but you’re failing to see the big picture of how all the fake 1099 employees can damage an industry.
Ruthless, Crude Truckin', JoeyJunk and 2 others Thank this. -
I'll give a football analogy since that's the language we speak here in America. The question is, what are the rules and specifically, what are the rules being enforced? What are the rules pertaining to holding or pass interference? The rules pertaining to targeting? See, the difference between a great play and an infraction that can cost dearly, what are the rules the refs are calling on that day?
I hear you, 1099 employers may be getting an unfair advantage over W2 employers. What are the rules the refs are calling right now?
I don't see the 1099 employers hiding anything!? So OK, I did work for a month for a guy with 20 or 30 trucks paid on a 1099. Dispatchers lived in the overseas version of Georgia. Crappy truck, dispatcher really didn't know much about trucking, or America. I quit. I like the owner. He paid me. It remains to be seen if he can keep that going 100% spot market freight. He certainly didn't appear to be hiding anything.
I have my taxes done professionally. The schedule C and all, I just like that layer between myself and the IRS. This will be my third year paying estimated taxes. My tax preparers don't seem phased by anything.
You're mad at the other team for lining up offsides. Bro, if the refs don't call it... It may not be fair but in intense competition, the boundaries are invariably going to be pushed. -
WTH are you talking about, 1099 drivers are slaves unless the fleet follows the legal guidelines on how to treat them and it is all contractual.
I know a bunch of these companies who dictate to the driver about what to run, how to run it, and where to go. Hell, we have a few dozen threads in the last year about drivers being trapped into situations because they are desperate for work and they get screwed by the owners - they are for the most part 1099 drivers.
1099 drivers also have inward or driver facing cameras, I just watched one that was sent to me and other owners, the driver won't get his last check, he put the truck in the ditch because one of his passengers fell in the sleeper area.
So please, you have no idea what you are talking about. Many of us here know what's going on. You choose to work for someone who needs to make you an employee and complain you are not getting paid, so this is one reason why I fight against these POS fleet owners. -
I am getting paid. As I indicated in another post, I pay attention to vulnerabilities and leverage. Just because I think about what I can do with my rook or my knight doesn't mean that's my next play.
Paper Transport put a huge black mark on my DAC. Oh, you don't care about that? Well then, maybe I'll come work for you... -
I wonder who would be interested in the texts where there was a plan to falsify my logs?
Chess is a good game. Some of you should try it -
How did it turn out? I gave my employer two weeks notice. Returned the truck to his location in fine condition. Got on a plane and came home.
Today I received my final direct deposit. Couldn't have turned out better unless Lassie saved the day and returned home unharmed. -
