I think they are over rated. Maybe 30 years ago they were decent but anymore they are just snake oil salesmen

Assuming most of this money went towards "tuning and tweaks" do you have an estimate on ROI for the expenditure?

Shut down in Childress, Texas for the weekend. There’s a decent little Pilot here with a Wal-Mart a couple doors down. I was planning on hitting a Wal-Mart with truck parking yesterday and then winding up at the Loves in Rhome, TX today but after losing 4+ hours yesterday I had to change plans. Big downside is I’ll be 4 hours away from the receiver instead of an hour but having 66 hours instead of 69 isn’t that big of a deal when I’m probably going to be in Fremont twice this week (once to exchange fuel cards and on Friday for the banquet, and one of those times I imagine they will want to do the 8K service on the truck.

Approximately $6300 of that went to a performance tune, new intake/exhaust manifold. The rest has been having the overhead set once a year, and the DPF baked and cleaned yearly. When I first bought the truck I also had them do a diesel force cleaning to get the built up carbon out of the system.

As far as ROI on the money I’ve spent, when I bought this truck, the ECM data showed a lifetime fuel economy average of 7.3 mpg after the tune and other modifications at PP, my 90 day fuel average economy is 8.4mpg. So for the 2 years and 4 months I’ve owned the truck I would say I’ve about broke even on ROI. The reason I say that, is at todays fuel prices 1mpg improvement is about $10k a year in savings on fuel cost.

Have you looked into dpf alternative for cleaning? I had a Crack in my filter and mack nor Volvo found it. Dpf found it and was 1500 cheaper than dealer.

They also have a better system to cleaning.
