Growing up I never even heard of a HOA. But as an adult I have heard numerous complaints about them. So I never wanted to be a part of one. And as I continue to get older. The HOA stories that I hear these days are pretty wild.
But in this piece by the media I heard of two situations that I didn't know were possible. A HOA charging the new owners for the home being empty. And a HOA garnishing a persons wage.
I dont know how in the world people put up with these HOA's. But people need to read or have an attorney read over these contracts before signing. HOA's need to be disbanded over these crazy rules. And power hungry presidents and there funkies.
The U.S. is quickly becoming a not so free country. Because of the wording in contracts these days. People are giving up there rights left and right!!!
HOA's have got to stop the B/S

When will people fight back?
TheLoadOut Thanks this. -
Are not HOA officials elected by the residents of the subdivision? If they get out of hand, vote them out and return to normalcy.

My 72 year grandmother bought a house in a hoa in Vancouver, WA in 86. She didn't tell me before she signed the paperwork. They started fining her for all kind of stuff... thousands of dollars. After 8 months she told me what they were doing.
In this order these are the people in my lift you don't f-with. My kids, my wife, my grandmother, my mother...
I read the contract and for the next 4 months i drove the President nuts (live across the street) did I break any laws NO, did I break any hoa rules No, let's just say that the hoa refunded all the money and spent thousands in court. And they never bothered my grandmother againhotrod1653, broke down plumber, misterG and 6 others Thank this. -

Stop aggravating your neighbors?
I’ve lived in 4 developments with HOA’s and I understood what I was getting into and what to expect. Here in Florida it really doesn’t matter because the County Nazi’s will be out measuring your grass or fining you for one thing or another.
If someone is lazy and they don’t like managing their property then a HOA isn’t for them.
I pay around $5k for my dues and imo worth every penny. -

To actually get a fine I’d need to ignore them for months on end.
Another hoa I was in I’d get weed notices.. I figured out that it was my next door neighbor complaining.
The other thing is the HOA’s have state guidelines that they have to follow. HOA rules really aren’t any different than our county ordinances. Yah I can’t paint my house pink if my neighbor agitated me so that’s a bummer -
