We used to have a saying back when i started in 1976:
BEFORE I DIE AND TURN TO DUST, I'D LIKE TO PASS A GREYHOUND BUS.

Your statement above really brings to light to total double standard vis a vis HOS regulations
Bus industry successfully lobbied and got to remain on the old pre 2003 rules, stop the clock whenever you wish, etc.
You know, the same rules that were deemed SO dangerous, the property carriers wouldn't be allowed to use them
But carrying human souls? Guess it doesn't matter.
Or the old rules aren't really that dangerous huh?

Like the red car that was nosed into the left side of the trailer?

As if it's not possible that a 4-wheeler could unexpectedly pull in front and then get on its brakes.

I'm certain that never happened you, not even once, during your many years and hundreds of thousands of miles driving commercially.

In previous comments, comments were made about the HOS for bus drivers never changed. In 2004 when HOS experienced a major shake up, did not affect bus drivers, they stayed under the 15/10 regulation, plus 8 hrs off. The 15 hrs clock could be stopped. Let me give you a good example and I spent over 20 years in the bus business, I can go on duty @3am, go pick up a group, drive 4 hrs taking them to DC for a sightseeing tour of the Capital, at each stop when I dropped the group off for say a hour or more, I logged off and stopped the clock. This went on all day. That night I would take them out for dinner or to see a show. Then do the return trip back home. I would log off around 3am the next day and never once violate the HOS because I could stop the clock. I did not have a sleeper or any place to stretch out and lay down as a truck driver does, what little sleep I got during the day between stops I got sitting up, but I could stop the clock and be perfectly legal.
