I use a local accountant in my home town. If use FCC’ s accounting program you get quarterly and year end statements. Take those to a good accountant that understands the trucking industry, and it’s simple.

A scant 3 years ago those numbers were vastly different.

Couldn’t agree more, inflation is real, the cost of everything as far as owning and maintaining a truck has gotten ridiculous.

Im just the opposite. I lost the ability to deal with company dispatching jackwads years ago. I also had the freedom to be with my mom for much of her 10-month health decline and subsequent passing. Did I make less money? Yes. And I DGAS. Money ain’t everything. And the older I get, the less it means.

This week has been a rough one. Started out going to New Jersey, J-Net was the usual, then went to Jersey City to pick up a broker load for Menards from a tight little place. Fought traffic all the way to the PA line and decided I was done with the day and shut down. Ran very hard on Thursday and got to Portage, Indiana. Left at 11 PM and ran the rest of the way to Shelby on Friday then picked up a load going to a Menards store that I was supposed to deliver that night. Ran over to Fremont to the Geotab class done with along with several niggles looked at on the truck. Checked in at 10 then showered and got some lunch then went to the class….and couldn’t keep my eyes open for the first half an hour or so. Class took a good 3 hours and it was fairly frantic trying to hand enter all of my logs from the previous 24 hours at the end.
While the shop was changing a tire they found a wheel seal going bad. So I got the truck back about 8 PM. Had to reschedule the store delivery for this morning. Once I’m done there I was supposed to grab a load for California.
Get there and get a phone call from my DM asking if I wanted to go to Pennsylvania. I said “not really.”
So now I’m on my way to lovely PA.
It’s my first day with Geotab. Noticed several times during the day that it would say it was in On Duty status, in the training they mentioned that it would do that sometimes but it would be right at the end of the day.
    Well, it wasn’t.
Got to Morris and discovered it inlhad been hopping back and forth from driving to on duty while I was driving and had only recorded 368 miles of the 615 I ran.

To compare apples to apples you’d have to look at days on the road also. I haven’t figured my stuff up yet for the last quarter but I’ve been parked and done for the year since the Friday before Thanksgiving. I’d much rather work my 40 or so weeks even if I don’t make as much as a company hand that has to work 50 weeks.

    Thanks for the heads up.

It says we can park there overnight on some gravel lot. Have you parked there before? Hoping to DnH and shut down on-site to await my reload Monday morning.

    cdavis188 and BigR Thank this.

It’s rather amazing what three years can bring. Not just in trucking for sure. Ugh. Interesting Times.
