Easing down thru the hills and hollers and switchbacks of KY in the 50's, you would see a strange reoccurrence. Sparsely settled.
Around a bend, and on a slope going up will be a cabin. Cabin will have a front porch. On this porch, someone will be sitting. May be an older man or woman, may be a younger teen. At each cabin, there will be a person sitting on the porch. You wonder; reading, no.. sewing, no.. dozing, not hardly. The person was the one who was to run back into the woods to advise someone was coming up to the house... Bad sign was when the lookout got up and went into the woods.... (This was way better than a Ring camera. Get it done in real time.)

 

Just checked the local net connected weather station. 1 1/2 inches of rain since midnight. Was showing 1/2 inch at midnight most fell after noon. So 2 inches in 24 hours.

"They" are still projecting another inch over night. Flooding from runoff should start about Wed/Thursday.

The big floodplain north of Seattle is starting to see over flow now.
