So my husband got a job offer today from Windy Hill Foliage. Their terminals are in Eustis Florida (an hour and 45 min from us) and one in Wisconsin. They said his background (felony from 1991) will not be a problem. He goes to his orientation to do paperwork Wednesday. Then should get assigned a trainer. Any advice or experience with this company? They allow riders and dogs after three months solo. Any advice or info is appreciated! Thanks!

Congratulations!!!!!! That ain't a bad place to start either!! Reefer life is quite good. I'd advice your husband to take in all he can and learn all he can. You never can learn too much on the road. In fact, your husband should come on here with you and get acquainted with all of us. Also, he should stay out of truck stops for reasons other than to fuel, eat, and shower. Sometimes the Negative Nancys of the industry spend all their time at truck stop complaining, or poo-pooing on other people's companies. Talking to drivers at the truck stop ain't always he best idea. Plus, staying out of there will keep cash in his pocket. It's expensive there. Remember the "-ity equation."
Reliabil-ity + Availabil-ity = Longev-ity.
I haven't seen him on here in a while, but maybe @ThomasTrucker21 can come on here and talk about Windy Hill. He was working there for a while.Albertaflatbed, 2Tap, wulfman75 and 2 others Thank this. -
Great news. Wish him the best.

@ThomasTrucker21 worked there as a starter company, he had a thread on here and could probably answer questions if he’s still around. Their terminal is more sorrento than it is eustis, I worked for a plant nursery in high school that neighbored them.

Given how tough the job market is right now for new(er) drivers -- I'm sure you're proud of him.
And you should be.
Advice? Searching for jobs later is much easier -- if he has at least a year of experience under his belt -- with a clean safety record, that is.
Thus: with winter weather driving already upon us in places -- SLOW DOWN....in wintry driving conditions. Keep as much space as is reasonably possible between his rig -- and others. Plan/look ahead for upcoming road conditions. Park it -- if upcoming road conditions justify such.
So try your best to stay with Windy Hill for at least a year. Longer is better.
To maximize his later future driving opportunities -- get ALL the relevant CDL endorsements: tanker, hazmat, and also doubles/triples. Those CDL endorsements are door-openers....and money-maker$.....

Hopefully they will assign a decent unit to him. I go by the Marshfield headquarters all the time and see new equipment parked but usually see older stuff out on the highways.
I talked to a recruiter a couple years ago about a job. Was thinking of Florida for retirement and thought it could be a way to spend time and do some house hunting but he said new guys just run the system and couldn't promise Florida to Minnesota/Wisconsin and back turns.Wargames, Albertaflatbed, nextgentrucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
I️ just started my training there last week Friday.
