Well from a few pre hires, I've chosen Roehl. I've spoken to a few drivers and have yet to come across one that's even slightly negative. Roehl gave me choices of van, refrigerated or flatbed. I've decided on refrigerated.

I was told I could go to flatbed later if I wanted. I feel lucky as Refrigerated training is in Atlanta, about 45 miles from my home.

I just passed their medical so orientation should start in early April (I hope).

Needless to say I feel blessed I got on with Roehl (Haven't heard any real complaints I can take seriously), also I can go to orientation close to home.

I can't promise I'll continue to post here, but I'm looking forward to this new adventure.

Well I hope things go well for you. I won't waste my breath posting my experience since you don't take complaints seriously. You'll learn for yourself soon enough.

Thanks for the respectful reply Gypsy and yes I'll learn lessons soon enough. But please understand it's not that I don't think YOUR complaints aren't important to you, but they may not apply to me. I've read complaints. Tons. I've spoken to drivers across the USA as I'm an avid biker and crossed this land often enough.

Also, some complaints are other people's joys! One gentleman here talks about how he loves the work of flatbed. He likes the hard work of tarping! a complaint of many.

Lastly, I don't shy away from problems or ignore them, but I never have fixated on them. As with construction so much crap happens some quit in frustration. I'm still successful and deal with problems but focus on the goals of the hour, day, week and so on. Even when people have stopped building I just started a new project!

In short at age 53 from police officer, to computer consultant and construction, I loved it all, love the adventures and still feel like a kid on a new road. Life is a bike ride, yank the throttle and aim for the clear sky and brave the storms.

Better stick with them. I dont know of any company that would do that for drivers in these tight times. My former company got me home for Christmas by closing their doors Dec.22 with an hr notice.I had to get my father to drive 2 hrs from Knoxville to Gordonsville,TN,then had to rent a car and drive to FL with all my truck stuff...but I got home for Christmas ! Been here ever since.

Well they left the door open for when I can start and I chose Apr 5th. Movin Target I'm sorry to here your news. I don't even know what to say bud.

As for Roehl, yes it's a starter company. So I expect the reins to be held tight. But who am I to complain? I figure getting through a safe year opens up new opportunities and considering some of my past years, getting through my 1st year here is doable.

I truly wish you well. I use to love this company but I'm sorry to say that there are some things I couldn't tolerate. But I hope it doesn't happen to you or anyone else for that matter. Bottom line we all are just looking to drive to the best of ability, be treated with respect. (I know one must have integrity.) I hope to get through orientation with Schneider and team again with hubby. I was sidelined with knee problem but have since recovered. Schneider didn't disregard me they left the door open for me to re-apply. I know that Schneider isn't perfect but I have learned and have grown from my experiences. Good luck. Will you be going to their school or do you have your CDL already?

Hey Gypsy; sorry about your knee and hope it mends completely. I've heard only good things about Schneider so best of luck.

Now I do know from my daughters and wife females are often treated differently than men. I often stand up for women peers because often men don't even realize how rude and unfair they are being.

So not knowing what happened at Roehl with you, I want to say I believe something did happen. But really, some people here only complain. I mean some people have nothing positive to say!

Anyhow Gypsy please say what you wish, but let us all remember The perfect company is the one WE would run if we could, but seeing as we work for others, let's try and stay positive as much as we can.

Lastly, if we didn't share experiences, this wouldn't be much of a forum.

Contrary to the constant references to and search for the "perfect company",that beast does not exist. This is a tough, throatcutting buisiness that's always in flux.If anyone has ever spent any time in the office at any carrier, you know what a pressure cooker it can be.You have to be able to look at each situation from the perspective of those in the office, but they should reasonably be expected to see some things thru the driver's eyes also.True,30 to 40% of the drivers out there will always be the chronic 'whiners' and are never happy wherever they land.Listen to them with a can of salt. There are some companies to stay away from at all costs.I think most do the best they can for the driver, but if they don't look out for the company first, there will be no jobs for drivers. Most respond positively to conscientious, safe and punctual drivers and will really look out for you if they know your performance is 'looking out for them'.I'm convinced there is no shortage of drivers;look at all the trucks on the road and the lack of parking, waiting to fuel, shower, take a dump, etc. There is a shortage of "good"drivers, and a company will usually work hard to keep one.Just a little advi.from experience, for what it's worth.

Gonna agree with you there MT! We can all find something to complain about no matter where we work. Unless of course my job is printing money for myself... I've been beating around researching companies and it really seems that there is no company out there that does not have some complaints here and there. I think complaints come with the territory!
I thank all of you guys for your input and information on all of them. My next step is to head out to the local truck stop and talk to some drivers...

This is one of the most honest well stated posts that I've seen. Speaking of individual issues is okay but it misses the real issues by a mile.

From what I've gathered over the last few years is there are a few drivers that act positively all the time and the word gets around. I became interested in trucking about 5 years ago when I ran into a driver. The job I was working on had me running into him most mornings.

In short he never complained or was negative. I pushed as I knew he was checking his words. Finally one day he laughed and said he loved his job and a major part of that job was attitude. More than driving itself, how others perceived him was the most important thing. From his grooming, health and what he said. He then said he got the route he wanted and would do whatever it took to keep that route.

They say if you want to do any job, emulate a successful person in that job. I want to emulate that guy. Ive found most successful drivers that I speak to are the same basically. The business is tough. But it's not what the industry can do for you, it's what you can do for you.
