Good! Watching youtube while driving. ####wit deserves that and more. Honestly he should get 25 years hard labor getting paid min wage and 100% of anything he earns going to the family of his victims.

An investigation revealed Barksdale was using his cell phone at the time of the crash, according to Rasheed, who said a video was playing on the device when the crash took place.

boys playing with toys.......this is why i say no one under the age of 26 should be in control of an 80,000 lbs land missile.

in fact, i thought that 26 was the "prefered age" of many companies, to satisfy the insurance companies..???

It was years ago. All that got changed because of the "scam" that trucking companies pulled in saying that there was a drivers shortage.

Honestly, the only way cell phone use or other handheld device to use is going to ever stop is if they devise some kind of signal blocker in the truck like they do at some businesses. Like literally, your cell phone will not be capable of working while you’re in the truck and it’s moving. I know, we use the signal for other things like our GPS, etc. But there are workarounds for this. I know this remedy will never happen, but it’s the only way it’s ever going to stop. They can implement a death penalty if you get caught using your cell phone while driving, and people Will still do it probably at the current rate they are now. It’s just human nature.

It's mostly about want to rather than having the technology.
Look how many of those dump trucks hit bridges because their boxes are up. It would probably be the simplest thing in the world to put a device on those trucks that automatically lowers the box when the truck is going 5-10 miles a hour. But they don't. You wanna know why they don't. Because they don't want to.
    Same thing with phones.
I'm old enough to remember a time that if you wanted to use a phone, you had to pull over and find some spare change. And the world didn't stop spinning if you did.

Your likely correct. Sadly we either crack down and make the punishments harsh enough that most normal people think twice about it. Or we keep going and this just gets more and more common. Laws arent really there to stop all crime. They are there to keep honest people honest and remove the trouble makers who are going to break the law anyway.

As towards opus, id say mostly yes but also a little no. Because cost has a factor in there too. Keep in mind the governments get nice fat kickbacks punishing these people in the form of fines and fees. So its in their intrest to ensure clueless idiots and their money are soon parted.

Your average joe doesnt care but your average politician very much so cares and doesnt want their gravy boat to run dry.

You’re correct. Here’s the thing psychologically with using handheld devices while driving. Everyone thinks they could do it and they all think it’s the next idiot that’s going to get the accident not them until it happens to them.

handheld devices now causes more deaths in serious accidents than anything else on the road. Including weather and drunk drivers. My suspicion is it’s going to follow the same path as DUI laws. They were not very serious for quite a while and now they are. It’s not just a little slap on the hand if you get a DUI like it used to be. I suspect using your cell phone is going to become the same way. The problem is, law-enforcement, pretty much Has to catch somebody red-handed to prove it. It’s not like they can check your blood for it like they do a DUI.

The instructor at the school I went to a long time ago always had a phrase that stuck with me. He said the worst day of your life will be when you look up from playing with your cell phone and in that moment you realize “you’re not going to stop in time“.

Almost every time you see a rear end collision out on the freeway. It’s because some idiot was on their cell phone.
