    Lol!

So this is a story told to me by ole Bob Stuart. He was one of the older guys leased to the same company I was.

Three guys had a regular run over the Blues from Boise to Portland. They would leave Boise in the evening and deliver in Portland the next morning. Bob had a train horn on his truck, and spotlights with the handles inside to direct them. We'll call the other drivers Les and Paul (for you guitar enthusiasts, and I don’t remember their names).

Les had a high powered KT, while Paul and Bob were running 300 Cumaparts. The road between Boise and Pendleton has lots of hills. Less had the habit of taking off and leaving Paul and Bob in the dust, and then he would park off an exit next to an abandoned rail siding and hop in the bunk. When Paul and Bob came straggling along they would stop and wake Les up, and then the three of them would roll on into Portland.

After awhile Paul and Bob got pissed that Les was always getting a nap and they had to drag on bleary-eyed, so they devised a plan to get even.

So, this one snowy night as they were getting off the exit to wake Les up, they killed their lights and eased into position right in front of Les's truck. Paul climbed into Bob's truck, and on the count of three Bob hit the train horn while Paul hit the spotlight right through Les's windshield and into the bunk. Remember they were next to an old rail siding.

Bob said he and Paul got out of his truck just busting a gut............until Les climbed out in his drawers and chased them around the truck with his tire thumper in hand.

I have no idea if there was any truth at all to the story, but Bob told it to me so convincingly with his ####-eating grin, some 40 years ago, that I still remember him telling it it to this day!

Barkeyville had full service in the pumps left of the fuel island until mid-covid and they couldn't keep people on. Kylertown is still full service. They used to even park your truck for you after they were done fueling if you wanted to grab a shower or go sit down for a meal but these days I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with that.

I never was able to sleep in the seat. I tried a couple of times. Personally I think it's a bad habit to get into. IMHO it would seem to me your body would get used to sleeping like that hence making it easier to fall asleep while driving. But hey wa do I know everyone is different

I used sleeping over the wheel as my alarm clock.
If I was dog tired, and I crawled in the bunk,I was done for 6 hours. Over the wheel after a couple of hours, I had to get up and stretch my back out.

The downside was if my head layed on the wheel just right, I would wake up with the "W" imprinted on my forehead.
Still hear about that all these years later .
