Look into construction, I had a driver who left a few weeks back because his brother had no one willing to work that had a CDL, so he went there to work for a while, he said this week he isn't coming back because he is making good money there.

I have been in your position before but not with felonies. Mine was with insurance as an Owner Operator. 11½ years ago I had a rollover accident in my truck. I laid my truck over on its side. After everything was said and done I couldn't get anyone to insure my company that was affordable. I was only able to find two insurance companies that would cover me and it was an astronomical amount. I was paying $1286 per month for two trucks and three trailers. After the accident the best I could come up with was close to $4,800 per month for one truck and one trailer and I wasn't willing to spend nearly $60,000 a year for insurance for one of my trucks so I had to find someone to drive for until the accident came off of my record. That was a tough 3 year period to say the least. I had to drive for some crap companies. The good thing for me was I was still able to find work with my CDL and support my family because at that time I had a newborn baby at home. I used Craigslist to find a 1099 jobs with smaller companies. For the first year and a half I had to put up with some bad companies and low or no pay. Heck, two of the companies closed their doors and shut down operations while I was on the road, loaded, in their trucks. I eventually found a decent company to drive for and made good money at the same time.

So, for you, I wouldn't say that all hope is lost in trying to find a job. It may not be the job you want or the one you thought you would end up with but there is something out there that will get you behind the wheel and earning a living.

Look at the skilled trades section on Craigslist in the big cities like Dallas, Atlanta, Philly, etc. There are plenty of companies looking for drivers. In Dallas I see a lot of jobs available on Craigslist for drivers. One driving job I see quite often is construction companies looking for a driver to haul their equipment around and they pay a decent wage. Most of them are hourly jobs with some overtime and I have seen several paying $25-$30 per hour plus overtime.

Keep looking and you will find something to get you started.

I don't mind driving a older model truck, and I definitely would give it my all to show that I am consistent and have changed. If I can get training I would adhere to whatever I'm taught , my school we had older ten speed trucks . And thank you for making some calls for me I greatly appreciate it especially being in vacation that's really nice of you

Everyone here has a shared experience of some sort. We have all been in good and bad situations. Right now the job market for drivers is tight. Companies have the ability to be picky and choosy because there are so many drivers available. Give the Craigslist skilled trades section a try. I see plenty of jobs in my local Dallas Craigslist for end Dump drivers and hopper bottom pulling grain and corn and fertilizer.

    Where are you located?

I know people who are driving trucks and in one case for a charter bus company that have felony backgrounds. Several of these people were convicted of the lower charges of homicide. One even spent almost 25 years for murder. Felonies present a problem when it comes to entering Canada and anything that requires being bonded. The offenses listed as permanent disqualifying offenses to get hazmat or a TWIC can prevent you from jobs that require you to have them. Some carriers have customers that require the driver to not be a convicted felon.

    HOWEVER

The problem the OP is facing right now is a general turndown of the economy that has allowed the carriers to be more selective.

What I tell people in this position is to stay positive and keep making applications. You might have to haul rubberized dog crap out of Omaha for a few years, but time will work in your favor.
