...around 200k for the truck+trailer downpayments, initial maintaince account, bonds and so on. 10k a month overhead for each truck in fuel maintaince ect. Seeing as you said oilfield likely A LOT of stuff for hazmat likely in the 10s of K. A rather massive and alarming number on nrw insurance for a start up hazmat company
So....around 350k if you want a realistic number to survive your first year in a major economic downturn as a startup and to weather the cost of the start up insurance premiums and inevitible breakdowns.
As for being dispatched. Either find contacts or establish yourself with someone as reliable and build up from there. Otherwise absolutely no one is going to help a potential competitor out by giving up their contacts or methods. -
WOW, you just got your CDL like what, 2 months ago and now your starting a company??

Well, if you think dispatchers will just send loads your way when you have no track record in the industry, good luck.
Dispatchers work for companies, you need to build relationships with the decision makers and convince them you are reliable, and can get their products to the site needed in a safe and timely fashion without issues. Also, if there are issues that you can still get the freight to site regardless of your issues, and you can do it better than the guys they have doing it already.
Oilfield is extremely hard on equipment, you will need to plan for additional maintenance, have a heavy spec truck, drivers that know how to drive on lease roads in all weather conditions and expect huge insurance as a new start up. As mentioned above, $350k to start, possibly more plus monthly operating cash flow.
Keep in mind payment is likely 90- 120 days. You need to cover that out of your pocket before anything starts rolling in.austinmike Thanks this. -
It’s going to cost you 100k to get yourself into one truck hauling general freight, extra abuse in the patch and the long pay period probably going to want another 50k Atleast on top of that.
multiply that by however many trucks you want to start with, (don’t forget payroll on those)
you are the dispatcher as it will be your company, so it’s your responsibility to go out and find workaustinmike and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
