Cool. I'll hope to remember when I get down there and see if I can find my brand new meat lock!

Be ready for a interrogation when you get back to Mesquite Smokr if they are sending right back from your illness it will probably be to put you through the 3rd degree.I hope I'm wrong but it wouldn't surprise me.
-
don't worry smokr, Stevens policy after any hospital visit, doctor visit while under dispatch, is to get you to the yard quickly, and to have you evaluated by Dr Feel good.
Stevens may cover it under their self insurance (workers comp) as you were under dispatch.
I walked into that very subway, and turned and walked out about a year ago. the smell turned my stomach.
glad you are feeling better, and that you are enjoying your time. Now get back to dallas, say hi to the doctor, cough nicely, and hit the road running.
On the Load Locks, buy them, as Stevens reimburses you what ever you pay for them. Or go in get the total amount and request a Cash Advance for that amount. -
Oh I don't doubt it. Newbie out on his own and first week gets sick and hospitalized?
Shouldn't be hard to prove it was real though, as the hospital has the records and I've faxed the forms so Stevens has access to that info. I was checked in the ER with an irregular heat rate in the forties and symptomatic as they called it.
I was so bad the paramedics had me flown by helicopter. Not like I was faking to take a day off or something. Not to mention it was days before their insurance kicked in, so it will be a very expensive time off.
I just hope it's short and I can get back on the road asap.
I wish I had smelled somthing foul before I had ordered, but I don't remember anything of the sort. I was also in a hurry, as I had really stopped to get load locks to replace the ones that were on a sealed trailer I swapped out earlier. They driver I swapped with said he didn't have any to give me, and I was down to one and on my way to Fresno and the Fig Growers Alliance warehouse, which told me it was a produce load and I would need more than one load lock. They wanted $36.99 each! LMAO Needless to say I didn't buy them.
I should have just turned around and left laughing.
As for the meat lock I will ask to have it removed from my deductions. I shouldn't owe for it afterall, since I was using it like I should have and it will be lost now, and not from any improper judgment or negligence on my part. Not to mention they could easily have the guy down there use his pass key and remove it and have any driver down there going to Dallas drop the thing at the yard and I can pick it up there.Last edited: Mar 25, 2010

Not bad for a pete you do not know. Does it have a Cat or Cummins? so many things affect fuel mileage, as time goes you will see all of them that you have NO control over. wind, weight, terrain. Shifting, acceleration, Idle time all make a big difference in what you can get. Inflated tires make a HUGE difference too.
I have also found, that a balance load between drives and tandems improve fuel mileage.
I hope WG gave you some good tips to follow too.

Food poison is a real hazard of living on the road now days. You said you gained 5 lb.in a few days if you never lost it and you gained that much in the same time span continuous. That's how a lot of us lose control of it.

I recently graduated my driving school and looking to apply at Stevens, this thread has been very useful. I have to call Mon about getting my orientation set up I am looking forward to hopefully working for Stevens

Smokr, use the qualcomm (or Quaylecomm for those people in Rio Linda). First find out what the cost of all the load locks you will need for that load. I assume you'll need three more. Don't forget the tax. The truck stop will be glad to calculate it for you. Then send an advance request and a po request. There's no good reason to use your money beyond the first load locks you purchased at the yard.
----
side note. For all the folks looking in on this, Stevens will have you pay for a meat lock and two load locks before you leave in your solo truck. You won't need cash for them. They come out of the first few checks. If you leave stevens, bring the truck to the yard and turn in the equipment purchased and you'll receive a full refund for all of them.skoshi130 Thanks this. -
Barracuda can recite this one in his sleep now. Here's a quick way to balance the drives and tandems. The formula looks like this.
(Heavy-Light) / 600 = Holes to move. Move the tandems toward the trouble (or heavy side of course)
For example let's look at these weights. Drives 31500, Tandems 35500.
The tandems are heavier so take 35500 minus 31500 which is 4000 lbs.
Divide the 4000 by 600 and you get and you get an evil 6.66 holes. Since the tandems are heaver, you'll be sliding them back.
The weights won't be exactly even unless land on a whole number. You generally want the remainder of the extra weight on the tandems, so if the tandems are heavy, ignore the extra 2/3 of a hole. If the drives are heavy, round up.
Now to verify those weights, take the difference divided by two. (2000 lbs)
Add it to the lighter weight and subtract it from the heavy side to get your new weights.
So after sliding six holes you'll have the following:
31500 + 2000 = 33500
and
35500 - 2000 = 33500.
Because both are very close to overweight (34000 lbs) AND you'll have the .66 remainder on the tandems, reweigh this one.
If you're a newbie coming to stevens or anywhere else and your trainer doesn't know about this board.. Make some money off him. You'll come within 300 lbs of the weights after sliding virtually EVERY time.Smokr, sarookie, Barracuda905 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Smokr, I am glad to see you are doing better. How have the miles been since going solo? I only have about 3k miles to go for my 7k in this phase. Hopefully the call back to the yard will not be that long after achieving 7k. I hope Stevens can pay for your hospital stay.
The pete has a cummins engine. Overall, I like it, however, the engine noise in the interior of this truck is louder than the KW. I had to break down and get me a blue parrot blue tooth headset so I can talk to my wife without her complaining of the background noise.
When figuring the fuel mileage I did not use the QC, however, my figures were exactly what they should have been in relation to it. In order to figure the fuel mileage I used the highly technical method of filling the tanks with fuel and dividing the miles driven by the gallons used. Rocket science. Today's fillup produced 6.7 mpg. This cold have been due to travelling through Indiana on I-65 (nice and flat).
Currently we are underway headed to Victorville, CA. We loaded in Cleveland, TN and this will be a 2k mile run. I drove up Mount Eagle today on I-24 and the cummins performed well. It went down the other side even easier.
I met an Alliance driver today in Atlanta who was complaining of his fuel mileage on his t660 with the cummins engine. He said he was getting "horrible" mileage, however, there was nothing mechanically wrong with the truck. He never did say exactly what he was getting. I think the problem with the truck may have been located between the steering wheel and the driver's seat.
In reference to tire pressure we usually check it every other day. My trainer likes 110 psi in the steers then 100 psi in the rest.
Has anyone heard any feedback on the t-700 that is out there being tested?
