I have held and maintained a CDL since 2015 but never used it at the time. I really need help because a lot of companies will not hire me without doing a refresher unless I want to work for Western Express. Schneider used to hire for OTR as a "new" driver but no longer do and only their family dollar account hires new drivers.

I have a TWIC also and interested in port work. Can anyone please steer me in the right direction on what to do? I am willing to go wherever for the work. Alaska even. Just want to truck drive.

Been applying locally too for cement mixer work but a year later and still no phone calls. I don't understand it.

I know the industry is slow at the moment but I don't want to team train or team drive.

I can try Knight again but they refused me over five years ago because of no experience.

The problem is most likely no experience. All the insurance companies know just having a CDL is not enough to drive a truck. The insurance company will not give the ok to hire a new driver without any experience. Lots of the mega fleets that hire new driver are self insured for the first $1,000,000. I worked for the big red one in Salt Lake City they would average 1 rollover a week. They had to write the check themselves for cleanup plus repair their own truck. Plus pay for the cargo in trailer. They said the average rollover was $55,000. They never had to call insurance company because they paid for anything under $1,000,000.

I am in the same situation but it's because of fired from last job for an alleged safety reason (accident guessed to be my fault, all are preventable at that company). No DOT reportable or accident with a tow.

Hmmm.. it’s an off thought, but what about UPS or FedEx local? Are you really looking to go OTR all over the country
