You guys are talking about rates and where a guy could make a living running local at one time. Their use to be a lot of hopper guys here in Enid that run local and the only time we saw out of state trucks were at harvest and during harvest with all the trucks and long lines they seem to move fast and trucks could make a grand a day but those days are long gone and back then it was just the wheat harvest.

The local trucks are few except for one farmer that runs six trucks and he hauls it cheap to keep his trucks busy. I have some friends that are giving up and doing something different and they have been pulling hopper for years and it just keeps getting cheaper and at least we don't have the the little brown people down here to make things worse.

My goal was to get my truck paid for and buy a new hopper and run Kansas and Oklahoma and be home almost every night for the family but I don't see this in my future the way rates are. I talked to a old timer the other day that sold his truck and quit back in 1981 and said when he sold out he was averaging a $1.15 a mile to the truck on all miles leased to a company pulling their end dump. Boy and some guys are running for less then that. Just wonder what fuel was in 81' I am guessing it was .50 to .60 cents a gallon.

A update on me, I terminated my lease with Oakley last week. Fuel was getting higher and their fuel surcharge was staying the same and my miles were dropping. I was getting 1800 to 2500 miles a week but it was from Monday to Monday. I need to do that from Monday thru Friday and home on the weekend but it doesn't seem to work that way. They are a good company and I don't have anything really to say bad about them but it just wasn't working for me. I was their nine months and that is the first time I ever worked on mileage pay so I always felt like a company driver with a truck payment.

If she is, she was probably conceived by two Oklahoma residents who sneaked across the border to birth her! :biggrin_25522:

How come you don't have latinos down there? Is that because OK passed an illegal immigration bill or something like that. Did you have to send them north!

No John she aint :biggrin_2557: However Kathleen Sebelius (who is #### near as bad) was the gov of Ks for years. She is the current Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the current White House squatters. One things for sure, she ain't no prettier than Pelosi, and her politics are just as bad. Thank God we got rid of her, our state can hopefully get headed in a positive direction.

Thanks, I am going back to pulling a flatbed for a company that I was leased to for a long time, rates are creeping back up and I can run Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas and be home every weekend. Their is a lot of pipe moving.

Thats a good question, yes the State of Oklahoma is tough on them and so is the DOT but I just don't see them down here like you do in western Kansas and all over Texas.
