How much creativity does it take to "keystroke" a solution to an ugly balance sheet?
Is this the mentality?
1) "Driver pay is a huge cost of business, SO, cut driver pay." A "quick and easy" solution, right? My pre-teen great neice could've come up with that!
2) "Fuel is a huge cost of business, SO, reduce/eliminate idling." My neice could have come up with that one too, but she's a soft hearted little girl. She wouldn't do that to you guys!
What is the upper echelon getting paid to do? I think I need to look more closely at carriers that refuse to take the easy way out!
Can carriers cut costs without cutting throats?
Carriers saving money on the backs of drivers! What's a better way?

Sad to say, but when things get as bad as they did and trucking co's are struggling they need to determine what is costing them money and how do they survive this until freight picks up. This will tick a lot of drivers off, but start by removing some perks. That can be reinstated later. Bonuses and such. The drivers that keep tearing stuff up, sorry, but you are costing us too much. Place a hiring freeze to give what drivers you do have decent miles. Many of these things was done by companies.
The problem is when you start making cuts the good drivers loose incentive to stay or try to get good fuel mileage. When you start cutting corners on maintenance cost you are just pushing the problem a few miles down the road. Not saving anything. I am not the business type that looks to correct the co problems. I am paid to deliver the goods. Having said that I would say you start at the top and thin down. The top dogs make more and have more areas to shave. Don't start with the drivers. They have enough that they are already shorted on. They don't have the comforts that a lot of big wigs have like fine dining and sleeping in their own beds.
Start at the top and work down. It will trickle down to the drivers, but if you tear out the foundation the whole building falls. Take a few shingles off and slowly work down. Just my opinion...Saddle Tramp and JustSonny Thank this. -

Again, please obtain your Class A CDL and put time in the seat of a carrier before you post your unsubstansiated claims about the industry. Your only "knowledge" about the trucking industry is what you claim to read on the interwebs.
