Fyr Thanks this. -

-
Well day 1 was mainly paperwork...
I have to say, Stevens yard and campus reminds me of Dick Simmons in Salt Lake back when I drove for them. The top of the line equipment, the attitude of the staff, and just the general good feelings you get... -
Since my last post there have some interesting developments. While waiting in Barstow for the trailer to be repaired the QC beeps. There was a message to call safety.
My trainer made the phone call. Safety told him was an allegation he made a u-turn the previous evening. As anyone who works for this company knows, an allegation of a u-turn can mean sudden death of your career.
This is the story of what happened. After dropping the trailer off at the warehouse on Nisqualli Road in Victorville we stopped at the security shack prior to exiting the property. This is where we were told the new trailer was ready. At this point we were bobtail. While stopped at the security shack there was another truck directly behind us waiting to exit. My trainer drove out the exit and onto the street. The street is a 3 lane street with the middle lane being a turn lane. He drove into the turn lane straightened the truck and then turned back into the entrance to go and get the trailer.
There was another Stevens driver watching what happened. I guess the driver's perception of the maneuver was that it was a u-turn. I believe there is some gray area here as to what is going to be defined as a u-turn in this situation because this was a bobtail situation and he pulled into the turn lane prior to turning back into the warehouse. It was also late at night and there was no other traffic on the roadway.
My trainer was not immediately disqualified as a driver.
First thing this morning the QC beeps repeatedly and there were several phone calls from safety and training. My trainer explained everything on the phone.
We now have a produce load headed back to Dallas. We should be there on Wednesday. I guess he will learn his fate then. -
Thats why drivers won't answer the CB to a fellow company driver now days because so many of them just trying to get info to make a report on somebody.Lots of snitches in this business I think it is people trying to make up from a lack of driving skills.

Some of the locations that Stevens sends us to actually require the driver to make a u turn to enter the plant, or drive down a NON Truck road. New Jersey is bad for this. California Also. There is even a scale in Texas that requires a U-turn. Some New York locations too. -

Stevens must not be in that much of a hurry to get us back to the yard. Today we spent the day putting out fires. The morning started out in Delano, CA where we picked up a pallet of grapes. Once we left there we headed south on 99. We did not make that far when we were told to go back to Fowler to pick up more oranges. Once we left there we were asked to go back to Delano and pick up more grapes. On the way out were asked to go to Oxnard and pick up a few pallets of strawberries.
So here I sit in Oxnard waiting to be called to back into the dock. This place is packed. This load delivers Thursday at 2100 in Fort Worth so the two of us should be able to do it with little problem.
As far as the u-turn issue is concerned Dallas has been mute on the subject. I guess they are waiting for us to get there to figure the issue out.
Smoker, how are things in Dallas. I hope they release you soon. -
Howdy all. Sitting in Americas Best in Garland. The bus ride was 35 hours of Hades in a handbasket. No heat on the bus from LA to Dallas in the night desert. OMFG. Anyway. We get to the vehicle inspection station other side of Fort Stockton on 10 and guess what? We have an illegal on board. A lady sitting up front row on right has no papers, no photo ID, no passport or visa. From Israel go figure. So the agents call in her name from her Israeli ID and we hear the radio say she had a tourist visa that expired in 2003! Dumb. So naturally we get to Dallas super late and I miss the connection to Mesquite. Counselor calls and asks where I am when I've been at the Dallas bus depot less than an hour with five more hours to wait for next bus to Mesquite, and I tell him. He calls back in a few minutes and says John is on his way to pick me up. Got to love that!
Get to yard and see Insurance Dept. Set up heart stress test and echocardiagram for tomorrow at a clinic downtown. The company guy will drive me there and pick me up later. Should go fine. I've never had heart problems I know of. It's aggravating though to take that hell ride to get here to have the same test done that the California cardiologist had done and said was fine, and a stress test, which really is only good for seeing what damage was done by some heart event in your past, though it is sort of okay for seeing function of your heart under work load, but not as good as the echocardiagram done in Cali.
sigh
Play nice and jump through the hoops. Yeah, I know. Silly though. I'm not earning, and I'm not earning for Stevens, either. But this is costing Stevens the $205 bus ticket, the $80 cab ride from Wheeler Ridge to Bakersfield bus station, and for the tests tomorrow, there is a tractor sitting idle in Cali, and they may even have to pay for it to be towed to a safe storage place, pay for storage, and then pay someone to go out there and get it recovered. They way I see it, doc is costing Stevens thousands of dollars by not listening to a cardiologist, an ER, and a GP, all of whom were right there on my case in person.
And if I lose that fantastic truck and get assigned some junker, boy will I lose a lot of respect for Stevens. Oh well.
Tons of my stuff is still on 10001 out in Cali. I hope they fly me back on Friday after the doc puts his stamp on my case so he can have his hubris and sense of importance.
Well, not much else to type at the moment. I've got my hour long shower done, in my comfy clothes, going to stock up for a couple of days from Kroger, and then I guess I'll go smoke a cig on the balcony and wait to get some sleep after the new South Park tonight.
Oh, and the internet at the Petro in Wheeler Ridge is awesome! Best I've come across so far by far. Never dropped, always pretty speedy, and only slows down during peak times from dinner time through midnight, and even then is still pretty decent.Last edited: Mar 31, 2010
