As others have said, its good to see positive attitudes and enthusiasm. Those who know me, or of me, know my glass tends to be half full if not running over and dont really care to surround myself with negativity or people who insist on complaining about anything and everything. A wise man once told me he walks up on people complaining about the company and asks them, "is there anything you like about working here?" hilarious!!!
My student and I loaded in fletcher last week wednesday and believe it or not...the docks are still tight and oklahoma is still windy. lol.
Re Backing: As long as the only thing you hit is the hole, who care's how many pull ups you take. Like I told my student, it's like golfing. The people behind you paid the same green fees you did so either ignore them, or let them play through. Turn off the CB and any other distractions and focus on the task at hand.
Looking forward to meeting those of you who are in your own truck now and those of you who are reading the thread to decide if trucking's for you and what company to sign on with. Who knows, I might even be lucky enough to be your driving instructor. Have fun, be safe. -
####, driver! 7.6 mpg with a student or two over the last quarter! I'm in awe, that really is impressive!! Try as I may, never passing a soul all day, still haven't passed the 7.3 mark. And with a student--you run it in auto or manual shift?
-
Hell, all winter I haven't been able to get over 6.2 mpg.
Since the weather has warmed up I am back up to above 6.5 though. I was averaging 7.2 last year. -
Well I saw my short career flash before my eyes today. Had a great day yesterday, loaded a single coil in Columbus and delivered in Alabama. Got a run over to rainsville to pick up a pre load. What a pain in the butt....but that is not the bad part.
I get ready to pull my truck over so I can drop my trailer. There are trucks, and empty trailers everywhere. I was carefully watching where I had to pull in order to make my swing, and BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hit the last trailer that was sitting on the end. I felt like a total failure. I just scratched my trailer but knocked a weld or two loose on his headache rack. I called it in and asked if I was going to be fired.
They said no, but I would probably get a couple of points. What a bad day.
Then leaving, I made a wrong turn and ended up taking a route that took me down a mountain side! I had asked a log hauler where the nearst truck stop was and he told me. He then says, there is a step grade up ahead for about a couple of miles, so take here slow. I have never seen anything this steep. Not even through west virginia. The truck stop was right where he said it was and made it at 13:45 on my 14 hour clock.
I will get over this, but I am really disappointed in myself. I know how much they off track and should have seen it coming.
It only takes a second or two.
Maybe the real estate market will get going again!Ops85, Cooper09, JustSonny and 1 other person Thank this. -
Everyone makes mistakes Jim... good thing no one got injured or no major damage.
Keep your head up...and be careful !! -
Yes...everyone does make mistakes. I've almost done what you did a couple of times...last time was at Charlotte Pipe.
And how did you have a great day loading in Columbus...if you got in and out of there in less than 6 hours you have set a record that will never be broken.
In other news...
When I filled up the fuel tanks today...I had averaged 7.5 mpg for that tank. 122 gallons for over 900 miles...I forget now exactly how many miles, 917 maybe.dollylama Thanks this. -
Thanks jim for the thread. I am leaving friday to go to little rock. I hope I do well. I wo'nt lie and say I am not nervous, cause i am! been laid off and on going on 2 years now. If my nerves do'nt get the best of me i have confidence that i will make it ,as i am serious about being a respectful employee to them.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
I know its easy for me set here and post that to you from the comfort of my couch; but Lords Will I will be out there someday and it could happen to me; so just pray and put it in the Lords hands and all will be taken care of according to his will; drive on brother you will be just fine; you will be in our (me/wife) prayers.
The place where I work; a delivery was being made at about 0100 hours; upon the delivary being made the driver struck a concrete barrier while attempting to back into spot for the night; I was notified (I am a Security Police Operations Supervisor) and responded; the driver stated that he/his company would not require a Police report; well because of our policy we had to have one made; he was not thrilled of our policy, the report and it going to be on his almost 20 years of no mishap driving (I apologized to him and was sympathetic to his situation, I may be in same boat someday); my point being; two days of driving or 20 years of driving things could/may happen; I hope and pray it does not, but it could; I just pray and drive on no matter what it may be.
God Bless and safety to all.sarge26044 and JustSonny Thank this. -
