I agree with you. I've mentioned a few times on different threads that the new Cobra radios are basically a throw away radio anymore. They have a lot of cold solder joint problems, which can be very time consuming for the tech to find the problem. Sometimes it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Far as your opinion being useless, its not. I think your spot on.
What C.B. should I start off with?

I was never a fan of chromed CB's; the last thing I want is a CB that the sun is going to reflect off of and blind me while I'm driving. I'm a few years out of the industry, but I had 2 Uniden 40ch digital CB's with weather radio, which I still own. I invested in a good noise-cancelling mic, and a 5' Rusty Rooster antenna. Don't believe in dual antennas, because CB antennas are supposed to be tuned, and unless multiple antennas are spaced an EXACT distance apart they end up working against each other in 1 or multiple directions. I'd bet that 95% of trucks with dual antennas don't have as much reach as they would if they jut disconnected one of the antennas.

No clue what kicked that price jump off but a few years back but now EVERYTHING is "rare" Around 2010 I saw a CL ad stating "CB radios, $25". Thinking it was for each unit, went to have a look.
Nope, an entire 2br apartment filled with every oddball brand radio along with accessories out the wazoo was included in that price.
Had I known that, I would've emptied out my car before heading there, third gen Camaros aren't exactly spacious. Sadly the guy was adamant about "one run only, once you leave I'm moving out" despite the fact I lived nearby. Otherwise I would have made another trip or three to clear it all out.
Thinking about it afterwards, I really started dwelling on how odd it seemed, the guy saying "I'm moving out as soon as you leave".
Sure moving sales are common but an apartment filled wall to wall at the last minute like that? Seems more like he wasn't the owner & was selling someone's stuff whilst they were away or a hoarder happened to die.
It all ended up getting stolen from me a couple years later, only one massive 23ch base left. Never tried it out because it has an oddball power plug (10 pin?).
