So I've read people fail the dot exam for lots of stuff. My blood pressure and resting heart rate is definitely up there due to the legal meth I need for my ADHD. I don't really need it to drive I kinda drive better without it but for planning and a lot of time spent thinking and putting together routes or digging for info while researching I need it. Is it gonna be problematic

ADHD meds are a problem. Some companies used to hire drivers on those meds, but no longer do. I can't help in this matter other than that.

Thanks for the reply. I know I read my prescriber can write a document stating what I take and how it does not impair my ability to drive. I can understand how the drug can mess with people's driving ability or be abused to stay up to drive longer. If it's a lost cause I'll just go on something else non stimulant that's not even a prescription.

You’re gonna need a psychiatrist and you’re going to face a medical review board depending on the company. I know for sure Swift has to send it to their own physician and so do the other mega carriers.

I think you should go back and re-read what @Chinatown wrote. YES, it is possible to get a medical card taking these meds. Go back and re-read what was said. The problem is there is a HUGE difference between getting a medical card and getting hired with something like this on the long form. I know many people who make hiring decisions and many people who work in Safety Depts across many carriers. Not a single one has told me they are OK today with their drivers operating Class 8 CMVs taking these meds. The problem is most of the larger carriers are self-underwriting their liability insurance. We live in a VERY litigious society and Attorneys are ready to file lawsuits all the time.

While I am on this lawsuit subject remember if a physician writes you are OK to drive and/or a Medical Examiner approves you to drive they are also liable if something happens.

I wish you all the luck possible, but I am not very optimistic about your chances.

Sooner or later that stuff will trip you up. It's getting almost impossible to find a reputable MD who'll prescribe that stuff to a driver. Way too much personal and professional liability.
If it was me...and if I could get by without it as you claim to do... I'd give that stuff a good leaving alone.

If you suffer more from the 'hyperactivity' part, but can concentrate and stay aware of your situation without meds, well, this may be the right career move. If, however, you can't concentrate without meds, I think your future is rather bleak in this business. Even hauling rocks may not be an option...
