Can someone please explain this apparently new fad with super small steering wheels? Came across this, and curious as to when this became a thing?

Edit to add: I'm not hating on anyone that does this, but when did this become a thing?
Can someone please explain the small stearing wheels

Back then, drivers had less processed food and Larger steering wheels -
I quit that gig for a local job, went on a diet and started hitting the gym. Lost 50 pounds quickly and never looked back. But, I could lose a few more pounds. But if I ever need a smaller steering wheel to accommodate my fat gut, I'm gonna hang up the keys and become a DOT cop. Or a Safety manager lolJolliRoger, Sons Hero, FloridaRetired and 7 others Thank this. -
