Is freight as bad on the west coast as it is out east?
I'm in OH and there is not much going on around here. Maybe it has something to do with the Baltimore port?

    Morris, IL at the TA.
I delivered this afternoon at 1400 and still no pplan as of 2030.
A few other Swift drivers here, but the place is pretty empty compared to how I'm used to it being. Not much truck traffic on the highways today either.

Well, my nice million mile truck is no more.

Chicago area on I-294... a pickup truck with a small trailer passes me on the right - on the shoulder.
The barrier closes in to right next to my lane (far right lane) and while the truck clears me the trailer does not.
The trailer gets wedged in between my truck and the barrier, ripping the trailer from the truck and leaving it straddling the barrier.
There was too much traffic in the next lane to allow my to move over.

Quite a bit of damage to my truck on the right side, including a punctured fuel tank. Much of that side is caved in or missing.

The other driver had no valid license or insurance, and didn't speak a work of English.

A bit later this afternoon my DM told me that Swift safety had reviewed the dash cam footage and deemed it non-preventable.

I had been on my way to Manteno terminal for an A service. Guess I don't need that anymore.

That happened at 1215, and I finally got to a hotel room at 1915.
It took 4 tow trucks to clear it up.

What a day, and I am so bummed.

I got a new truck today.
3 years older, 200k more miles and a few irritating problems. Some I doubt will be fixed, like the struts that keep the cabinet doors open or a fridge that won't latch. Some should be fixed the next time I get into a shop. All in all, really nothing too serious.

The first one they sent me for was a day cab, which would not work at all. Then I was sent 3 truck numbers.
The first two I really did not want, then the last one I checked out seemed better than the rest.
One of the irritating things is a loose inner fender panel that vibrates and makes noise. Makes it seem like the truck is going to fall apart.
Once I found it, it is no big deal except for the irritating parts.
The steering is looser and the ride is rougher than my nice million mile truck. I loved that truck.

I am reminded once again, with the swapping of trucks, why I do not do loaners for a few days.
Way too much work, and pain, and time.
I will always gladly go without pay to not go through that experience twice in a week or two.

And I will have to ask someone...
With the age of this truck, can I order a new million mile brand new to my liking truck?

    dwells40 Thanks this.
