How did you quit Smoking cigarettes?

I really got hooked on cigarettes during basic training. Smokers got regular smoke breaks, but non-smokers had to keep working with no breaks.

One time we were allowed a day off to visit downtown San Diego. A few of us bought some smokes, bottle of whiskey, first tattoo. Back in the barracks, we shared the smokes and whiskey with our shipmates and nothing was ever said about it.

 

Well let's face it. Smoking was fun and cool at younger age, especially in masculine surroundings.

 

Even today in older generations; especially in jazz clubs.

I sort of remember, only smokers getting a patio break. But, seems none of us got one for the first 2-3 weeks. By then, many were ready to take up almost anything…
