I been looking to replace my current truck which I been driving for the past 10 years. I have searched on truck paper and Facebook. My last truck I bought it from a dealer and I have no experience buying from a person directly selling their own equipment. I found few people selling their own equipment but everyone want me to pay them not the bank which they have loan with obviously lien holders. These trucks are a lot cheaper than what the dealers are selling but seems risky. The sellers wants me to pay them instead of the bank then the bank issue the title to original owner and then they transfer the title to me. I have no idea since I have never done this before is this a recipe for scam? If anyone have any experience with this process would appreciate your input. Thank you

Absolutely not. If they don’t have title in hand with no liens. Then go to the bank and pay them and have the bank issue the title in your name.

Thank you Shanman I thought so to. So far two listings and they both want me to do the same. I’m purchasing the truck without a loan.

Don't forget to do your Due Diligence on the truck.

I've always bought and sold stuff that way. paying and getting title later. Unless I know you or you pay cash or I talk directly to your bank you are NOT getting the title until I know the check clears.

Thanks Lester. I don’t have problem with waiting and neither about my checks getting cleared. I just didn’t know if this is normal with everything going around these days don’t want to get scammed since I don’t have any experience with it.

I don’t have a problem going with you to the bank so I know that the title is put in my name.

but I won’t just hand you a check and hope you do the right thing. I don’t know you.

Yes that’s what someone told me. Both parties go to the bank. I would ask them if they are willing to do that if not I might just stay away.

Exactly my issue since this truck is out of state where we are totally strangers. Even after making the payment they want the title transfer to them first before they transfer it to me. It’s either a scam or the truck is purchased through a leasing program such as Lone mountain.
