    Oldnewbe,

I am in a similar situation here in Virginia, after a little research I found a local CC that has a school for$3500.00! I procrastinated because of the cost which is ripoff IMO for a 4 week school, so further research had me looking 80 miles away at Blue Ridge CC in Weyers Cave, off of -81, after after an interview I was told that I was accepted for the cost of $1297.00 for a 5 week school, now tell me about a ripoff, seems the Board of Education here in the good old Commonwealth has let them run wild. I checked with the WIA program and after submitting my paperwork over 4 months ago they told me to resubmit as they do not have my paper anymore WHAT:biggrin_25516:? In short, I'm my wife is going to hit her 401k and I hopefully will start in May. Good Luck.

I think you are correct, but Roehl isn't hiring this far south (MS Gulf Coast). I think I might do a formal app with them just to get a formal "not hiring in your area" reply. I have talked to a recruiter at Roehl, but I'd like to get another NO! Ya never know, right?

Witte Bros Exchange is a "sleeper" that I haven't heard of. I don't fit the criteria (must live w/i 100 miles of HQ) but I'm not opposed to relocating for the right situation. I'm going to look into them further. Thanks for the heads up!:biggrin_25514:

P.S. FFE will get another look also.

    Oldnewbiegonnabe,
I'm in Central Fl and Roehl is hiring down here. I got a call from them today and I will be going to there location up in WI in June to start my training with them.
I'm signing on for the national dry van.
    Good luck to you.

Maybe things have changed. Last time (and only time) I talked with them they said they weren't hiring below I-20. Thanks

Maybe we will be there at the same time. I'm sending my paperwork down to get finalized this week. My job ends the 3rd of June so I am trying to get into a class shortly after that. I haven't made that choice in stone yet, but it is leaning that way. I'm interested in flats will do van if I can't do flats.
Hoping things start rolling quicker here at my end.

It looks like I will be starting on the 14th.
They are doing the background (I'm Clean)on me and I should know tomorrow.
Friday I will go to DMV for the permit test.

I am on week 2 of training at central. I have never drove a big truck before or held any type of cdl. The class is very fast but i picked it up well. Passed every test on the first try so far. Everyone i have meet here as far as office people are very nice, and MOST of the drivers i have talked to seem to be very happy. I have only heard a few complain about repairs, but they also basically told me they were rude to the repair shop. Had one guy telling me he was not making any money on the lease program, but he was here for over 5 days and i saw him do was smoke cigs. Prolly turned down loads, and went to the bottom of the list. The instructers told me that you can turn down a load as a lease op, but if you do it too much you get on your dis. bad side. I think they are worth a go. I cant wait till next week when i hit the road with my trainer.

Thanks Grey Ghost! I'm really glad I started this thread. I been reminded of several carriers that had slipped my mind and some I'd never heard of. Central's school in Conley, GA would be a good idea....only 2 states away from where I live now in MS. I'd go anywhere in the US for the right school though if the carrier had freight running through my area. I understand the need to hire in certain areas, particularly for those drivers who want/need hometime.:biggrin_25514:

I'll email an app to Central before I crash for the night.
