I would definitely say plan 12 hrs minimum!!!! I chose to work much more and have 4 kids at home. But the cost of living is so high that's what I choose. But just as an example:

I'm waiting to load wheat mids right now.... Should have taken an hour to get here from last unload (45 miles) even in rush hour..... But major construction on route, closed off ramp, and a wreck.... Took 2.5 hrs to drive the final 10 miles, on any of 3 possible routes. Then get here and staff busy so have already been waiting 45 min when normally it's 30 or less, just to give them my load #.

Needless to say this run that usually runs 4-5 hrs round trip, is going on 8 hrs+..... And counting.

I love Florida. Wish I could move there right now. I've lived there in the past, several years, and it's a wonderful state.

My buddy works 4 days, supposed to be 4 days 10 hour shifts, however those 10 hour days always end up 12-14 and maybe a 16 hour day shifts. This is hauling fuel.

Aahhh, decision time. As I've posted before, we make decisions as we go thru life. We don't know if it's the right decision until months or years later. So, if you decide to go into trucking, just remember it may be the WRONG decision and you will know soon enough. If that happens, you dust yourself off and continue on with life. But, on the other side of the coin, it may be the RIGHT decision, which you will know soon enough.
An 8 hr/day work schedule in this biz is not normal. You will eat lunch on the move while driving or sitting at a red light. You will have more delays than not during the day. Even the inbound freight could be late ( you show up at work and 2 sets of doubles are delayed) Can you say "late start?".
Whatever you decide, best of luck.

It’s Florida and anything related to driving, CDL A or B, you’re going to be a slave. It’s partly why I left and moved back to the Midwest. All the transportation managers have unrealistic expectations of drivers. They don’t care and those above them don’t care, because they go home at 8hrs and your slaving away doesn’t affect them. You’ll be given 10 hours worth of work loaded on the truck and routed in their software, with traffic, that’s a 12-14 hour day. Very rarely was I off before 12 hours. And, if you work hard, you’ll get an unfair share of what’s available. It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking at P&D, wholesale delivery, whatever. And, racial exploitation is alive and well, all over Florida.

I say this with all due respect, although it won’t come off that way, I personally wish all of you would quit flooding Florida. What is the allure? Everyone flocking here, especially to the areas mentioned have made it an absolute nightmare, traffic is miserable, trips that used to take 3 hours now average almost double that. I brought a load from home (Ocala) last Monday to Sarasota, it took me 5 hours and 20 minutes, that’s a 2 and a half hour trip mileage wise. I know everyone is free to do as they please, but it’s getting ridiculous down here, I’m free to leave as well which is the direction I’ll most likely be taking, but #### I can’t help but feel a little jaded, this was home for 40 years, the mass migration has made it feel more like hell. Rant over.
