    You back way off. Just like driving a car or truck. Is it fresh rain, or has it been sometime since the last rain? If it's been days, or weeks since a rain. A fresh rain is dangerous. All the vehicles have dropped oil,grease on the road. Did it rain 3 days and wash the road clean? Wet pavement I drive a semi, or bike like a child's toy. Slow and safe. You will feel it.

    Is my assumption correct then that the really fat tires out these days are hard to make slip and in turn ought to be safer for us pleasure/weekend riders?

    Loud little bugs!
    Here you go:
    Periodical cicadas live underground for 13 or 17 years, depending on the brood. But once every 221 years, a 13-year and 17-year brood surfaces at the same time. This year's cohorts, Brood XIII and Brood XIX, haven't appeared together since 1803. The next double-brood, numbers XIX and IX, will arrive in 2037.

    This is the dreaded “ It depends” situation. What is the tire profile. Have noted that some have a very flat, almost like an automobile profile, others have a mild crown. Then the tire composition comes into play.
    Tires designed for long life and mileage tend to be made from harder compounds, these have a higher likelihood of slipping, skidding or sliding. Softer, more traction oriented tires will be less likely to slip or skid. Then they wear out quickly. Touring tires are designed more for load and mileage, tend to be a harder compound, and a flatter profile, nothing wrong with that, it is what you want. Tires for sport rockets tend to be a softer compound and a very rounded profile. The rounder profile offers more contact patch even at sharp/high lean angles.

    @AModelCat

    If you can find a copy of a book by Keith Code,
    Called “A twist of the wrist” would be well worth the expense. It is geared towards racing, but a lot of the concepts really apply to all riders.

    Do a search on the title, probably find a used one cheap.

    Keith is a long ago friend. Used to race with him. Dude was wicked fast.
