How did the US govt get into EVERY detail of EVERY life? By people who want this one particular topic or another particular topic spread to every person in the country. EVERY problem is not cured by just putting the information before every person. But putting MORE information before every person is a great way to grow the govt, increase taxes, and fill up the media with govt messages. When Mitt Romney ran for POTUS a lot of theology nerds thought what every voter needed to sit through was the theology nerd's 19-part 74 hour dissertation on Mormon theology. In the 1950s the govt put out the food pyramid, because if people just knew the facts they would make better choices. Now some believe that same food pyramid played a part in the obesity "epidemic". Putting more public service announcements into the media, now that govt and interest group PSAs are everywhere is just more background noise to the people that don't already believe learning to be safe around guns is important enough for them to get more information. Information is more available now and people are achieving worse results. In the novel 1984 every moment outside the apartment people were deluged with messages from the govt about one topic or another. If information was the missing key then North Korea would be paradise.

As a lifer myself and never had to serve with conscripts/draftees, I wonder what the IDF lifers think of conscripts? I whole heartedly agree that military service is good for a vast majority. But there are some that have no business whatsoever being in the ranks.
