I got mine from Day one of having CDL and was 20-25K a few years ago. Age is a big issue as well. If you are younger than 30 I am gonna guess that is the bigger issue.
Insurance for new authority $45K year???

2 years DRIVING doesnt mean he knows anything about the business...
And since he has to ask questions about something basic like insurance and where to go for it on the interweb pretty much means the deeper parts of the business he doesnt even know enough about to even ask yet...
Another used truck and trailer on the market before the end of the year. Any bets?Last edited: Jun 5, 2024

He looked into what he needed to and it's more than he thought it was going to be, so he said hey what do you guys think about this.
I think that's a really intelligent thing to do. When you ask a question like that you're asking experienced people that have been in the business for a long time, basically he's saying is there something I'm doing wrong should I look at something different is this common to your experience or is this something unique to me?
And he receives great helpful answers, like perhaps it's your age or maybe it's your location, maybe wait a while and save some more money, lease on, whatever.
I'm in much bigger fan of helpful constructive criticism, than cynicism.
The first is beneficial to both parties, the second is only a reflection of oneself. -
Thanks Dino soar for the detailed and positive response. Leasing on is definitely an option I have been considering, after receiving that quote. Have been crunching numbers and comparisons on that today.
Dino soar Thanks this. -

It’s kinda funny in a way when someone says go drive for someone else and learn the business. In all reality the guy has couple years of driving experience it’s not like the company he drives for will tell him the good lanes and what they get on them.

My FIRST response was to tell him to look into OOIDA. (post number 3)
Then a few people tell him to not jump into anything. THEN he says already bought a truck and trailer...
AND he is expecting to pay 30k a year (in THIS market no less).
So my SECOND/THIRD posts were to tell him he would have to join OOIDA to get insurance through them and I pay 4k. (posts 19 and 20).
Then he says he has 2 years driving flatbeds. Anyone with 2 years exp that wants to be an O/O would at the very LEAST would have checked into insurance BEFORE BUYING A TRUCK!!!
And then at 23 I said what everyone before me said, get some experience...
And then YOU come along with your wisdom...
LOL, whatever. You 2 go somewhere and be happy together. Im sure he will not be one of the 80% of businesses that fail in the first year because you are looking out for him.runningman0661 Thanks this. -
